JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Playgroup Assistant

Responsible to: The Playgroup Manager

Responsible for: All children attending the group

Date of issue:

Summary of the Main Purpose of the Job

To assist the Manager with the playgroup sessions to ensure safe, stimulating play, and to provide for the needs of the children.

Main Duties

  • Support the Manager to provide safe, stimulating group play to meet the social, linguistic, creative, physical, imaginative and emotional needs of each child.
  • Help prepare, plan, provide and take part in all the group’s activities. Also to clear away afterwards.
  • Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safe keeping of the children.
  • Attend staff meetings and help prepare and implement the curriculum for the group.
  • Encourage parental involvement.
  • Attend relevant meetings and courses as requested by the Manager.
  • Advise the Manager of any matter requiring attention such as concerns about a child, or equipment needing repair or replacement.
  • Keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is learnt as part of the job.
  • Assist with regular observations of children and activities.
  • Adhere to and help to implement the group’s Equality and inclusion, Safeguarding and other policies.
  • Ensure the children are supervised at all times.
  • Work to the Welsh Government Guidance for Flying Start.

Previous Knowledge

Development of under fives.

Working in an early years setting.

Qualifications

Children’s Care Learning and Development Level 3 or equivalent.

Be prepared to undertake First Aid, Food Hygiene, Safeguarding and SENCO courses.

Skills

Be able to communicate and maintain friendly relationships with children, parents and staff.

Be able to work on own initiative and to work within a team.

Be prepared to seek guidance when necessary.

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 4 months
Part-time hours: 12.5 per week

Salary: £9.50-£9.51 per hour

  • Cwmbran, NP44 5TZ: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

  • Nursery: 1 year (preferred)
  • Childcare: 1 year (preferred)
