Position: Childcare Coordinator
Hours: 40 hrs per week (Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7:45am and 6pm, usually a 4.5 day week pattern)
Salary: £26,000 - £26,520 pro rata (£12.50 - £12.75 per hour) *from April 2023 after NMW increase
Essential Criteria / experience:
- N.N.E.B / N.V.Q. / CCLD / Playwork / BTec LEVEL III (or equivalent.
- or Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies
- or BA Hons Early Childhood Studies
- 12-18 months experience of working with children, working within a similar setting
- Current First Aid / Paediatric First Aid
- Current Child Protection Training
- Enthusiasm for CPD
Desirable criteria:
- Food Safety Qualification
- Health and Safety Qualification
- Clean Driving Licence / Ability to drive a 7 or 9 seater company vehicle
- Strong IT skills / Good understanding of Famly or other cloud-based management apps
- Forest School Qualification
Job Summary:
Your role as Coordinator is to provide safe, high quality education and care for children ages approximately 6 months - 11 years. You must lead and work as part of a team in providing a safe, caring, happy and stimulating environment for the children in our care. You will carry out all relevant duties without direct supervision and train/supervise qualified and unqualified staff, volunteers and students, e.g. induction training / on the job training / specific improvement training arising from supervisory meetings etc. You will ensure that the high standards of care, service, safety and hygiene are maintained according to all Bumbles Day Care policies, procedures and routines.
Your role and responsibilities as a Coordinator in Bumbles Day Care include:
LEADERSHIP
- Assisting the Manager / Deputy manager in providing effective day to day management of Bumbles. This may mean being based within various groups around each of Bumbles settings for periods of time – you may not always be based within the same group. Adaptability and co-operation in this will be a huge part of your role.
- Being responsible for the day to day management and organisation of children and staff with regards to the group / room to which you are assigned each day / Bumbles as a whole in line with the policies and procedures.
- Compiling and coordinating appropriate shopping lists and resource requests for materials. You must ensure economical use of all materials and supplies eg kitchen roll, wipes, art materials etc.
- Carrying out 1:1 and performance review meetings as appropriate. Devising action plans with the practitioner members of staff within the group to which you are assigned.
OPERATIONAL
- Ensuring the development of good interpersonal relationships with children, parents and other staff. As co-ordinator you are responsible for ensuring that other members of your staff team are developing these good interpersonal relationships through support and review actions.
- Wearing appropriate uniform and maintaining a professional appearance whilst at Bumbles. Our policy is to get outdoors everyday, you must come prepared to spend portions of the day outdoors in all weathers. Expectation is on the Cooordinator to speak to any member of staff who is not wearing the appropriate uniform within the group that they are assigned.
- Striving to maintain high levels of attendance at Bumbles.
- Keeping abreast with the current legislation and development in the field of childcare, ensuring your own continuous professional development (CPD)
- Assisting in the orientation, induction and training of new staff and students.
- Observing any signs of ill health or stress factors in staff and reporting to the manager, as appropriate.
- Reporting to the manager immediately any matter of concern regarding individual children, staff or parents.
- Ensuring that your areas of responsibility have the correct adult to child ratio at all times.
- Ensuring that any information obtained through work about children, parents or their families is treated as confidential information.
- Always conducting yourself and performing your duties in a manner that reflects the high standards expected from every member of our team at Bumbles. You should bear in mind that any negative representation of yourself could have an impact on your reputation or relationships with peers or parents and could result in disciplinary action.
- Adhering to all of Bumbles policies and procedures.
- Assisting with nappy changing or toileting as necessary, ensuring that every child’s needs are met. Remember that the child’s right to privacy is paramount.
- Reporting any safeguarding concerns immediately to the designated child protection officer. As co-ordinator you may be the first contact in terms of a disclosure.
- Supervising children at all snack and meal times, as appropriate. Assisting with feeding, teaching and encouraging the children with regard to their development of self-care / self-help skills. Ensuring that children with food allergies have the appropriate place mat at snack and meal times. It is your responsibility as Co-ordinator to ensure that these are kept up to date / refreshed as necessary. Use of high chairs to be kept to a minimum if appropriate to your age group.
- Ensuring that no child is left unattended at any time.
- Ensuring that each child is collected by someone known to Bumbles or that it has been cleared by parent / guardian(s). If unsure, ask a member of the management team.
- Co-operating and participating, when requested by the manager in the provision of other duties:Supervising children to and from local schools, parks and local recreation areas
Accompanying children on ‘outings’, ensuring their safe conduct.
- Collecting children from nursery or school, ensuring to do so in a professional manner where the safety of the children is paramount.
- Participating in training programmes, as required. Training may have to be undertaken outside working hours.
- Answering the office telephone when authorised to do so and relay any messages to the appropriate person.
- Working on a rota basis which will involve all duties associated with opening up or closing procedures.
- Attending to any other duties relevant to the post.
OBSERVATION, PLANNING & RECORD KEEPING
As Co-orinator you are required to:
- Assess each individual child’s needs and, in conjunction with your team, carry out observations and implement plans to meet those needs. This includes following the critical daily information each day and being aware of allergies and additional needs of children in the group to which you are assigned each day. As Coordinator, you must ensure that every member of your core team and anyone providing cover within your group reads carefully and signs the Critical Daily Information (CDI).
- Ensure that all activities carried out are within an equal opportunities framework and encourage community wide participation and delivery. You are responsible for assisting others in this task.
- Develop and implement a varied weekly play programmes ensuring to involve all members of your team.
- In our wrap around settings it is important to remember that the children should also be included in the planning stages, where appropriate.
- Report / record all incidents and accidents accurately and promptly via phone, famly or the website. Always follow this up verbally.
- Communicate with parents daily on the well-being of their children, relaying any relevant information from them to other members of the team and to the manager, ensuring that good information links are sustained at all times.
- Ensure the accurate completion of daily and other records. Some of these will be digital, and some will be hard copy. It is your responsibility as co-ordinator to ensure that these are completed in full.
SETTINGS, ROOMS & RESOURCES
- Ensure that play equipment / art materials / furniture are set up, cleaned and tidied away in a safe manner and stored in designated areas. Ensure that all toys, equipment and resources are well looked after.
- Ensure that the floors are kept clean throughout the day by brushing or vacuuming as appropriate
- Ensure that each piece of equipment is thoroughly washed every week, as appropriate to the age group following an organisational schedule, as required. Ensure that these tasks are assigned equally within the team to which you are assigned.
- Ensure laundry is done every week / daily as appropriate.
- Ensure that the room inventory is kept up to date at all times and that the Person in Charge is informed of any materials or equipment needing replaced, discarding any broken items immediately into a bin. If it can be fixed, complete a facilities management form on the website and store the item appropriately until this can be completed.
HEALTH & SAFETY
- As co-ordinator you are responsible for directing staff in maintaining the room to which you are assigned in following all health and safety protocols. This will ensure that care is taken for the health and safety of yourself, the staff, children and any persons on the premises in accordance with the health and safety policies.
- To observe all safety and hygiene rules, policies and procedures of Bumbles.
- To comply and adhere to fire policies and procedures.
- Ensure infection control procedures are kept in check at all times by following all related procedures. These will be further explained during induction. You are responsible for ensuring that these are followed by all members of the team to which you are assigned.
- Ensure the safe storage and administration of all medicines according to policy.
- Ensure that the management team have been informed of medicines that have to be administered that day.
