As the Chief of Staff (“CoS”), you will report directly into the Chief Risk Officer, HSBC Innovation Banking UK (“CRO”). You will be a key member of the CRO’s Leadership Team, providing wide ranging support. The HSBC Innovation Banking (HINV) Risk team covers all Risk, Compliance and Financial Crime disciplines. You will work alongside senior leaders at HINV as we continue to expand and develop.

Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the CRO in the execution of their strategic vision for the HINV Risk Team. Includes coordinating strategy development across the HINV Risk Team, ensuring oversight for the CRO.
  • Demonstrate sound judgement and discretion at all times, providing candid and honest input in all matters, to assist with developing viable solutions to complex issues and challenges.
  • Brief and prepare the CRO on issues that have been submitted for their review which includes reviewing papers on behalf of the CRO.
  • Support the CRO in their obligations under the Senior Managers Certification Regime (“SMCR”) and associated reasonable steps.
  • Support and develop relationships across the direct reports of the CRO.
  • Support the HINV Risk Leadership Team with business strategy, best practice, oversight and governance.
  • When necessary, act as delegate for the CRO, representing their views on any Committees, working groups of stakeholder meetings that may be required.
  • Build subject matter expertise of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) applied in HINV.
  • Provide central co-ordination and support for the Risk team on matters such as OKRs, Business Continuity Management, HR related matters and any ad-hoc issues that may arise.

Relationship Management

  • Establish a strong relationship with the Risk leadership team and the larger group, representing the CRO’s views and ensuring all are aligned on strategic decisions and impactful changes.
  • Build great relationships with the CRO’s direct reports.
  • Work with senior stakeholders across HINV.
  • Provide an alternative point of contact for staff within the Risk team to raise issues or concerns that they may not feel comfortable raising directly with their line manager.

Project Management

  • Help coordinate and drive projects and tasks for the CRO to achieve organizational objectives, fostering cross-functional collaboration.
  • Manage projects and milestones.
  • Prioritise and coordinate critical issues and find essential information that is pertinent for the CRO to have to make good business decisions.

Strategic Planning

  • Work with Strategy, Finance, Comms and Business leadership to support the corporate planning and OKR setting process, including the clear communication of vision, priorities and goals.
  • Communications and Engagement
  • Ensure sharp focus on team communications and operations for better employee engagement and enablement. Oversee the planning of the business’ leadership meetings and Townhalls.

Knowledge

  • Good knowledge of Risk Management in a bank: Financial Risks and Non-Financial Risks including Compliance and Financial Crime.

Education and Experience

  • Solid relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience in Banking (required) and Risk (preferred).

Travel

  • Travel may be occasionally required
