SI Group is a multinational global leader in the chemical industry, working in diverse areas such as; polymer auxiliaries, pharmaceuticals, performance additives and chemical intermediates.
We are currently looking to recruit a Associate Chemist to contribute to the success of our Polymer Research and Development site based in Trafford Park, Manchester.
You will design and conduct compounding and polymer testing through the use of lab equipment such as extruders, injection moulding, polymer testing etc.
You will work on new application development, new product development and generate data within targeted applications sectors.
Key Responsibilities
· Research and develop compounding application formulations to generate data as per customer requirements.
· Carry out compounding and injection moulding and characterization of mechanical properties.
· Design and carefully carry out laboratory experimental programs.
· Write detailed reports on investigations and present data graphically using Excel to demonstrate the effects observed and conclusions drawn.
· Document all data (raw data and reports) in a timely manner on access restricted databases ( Dbase/ Xls/ Lims.etc).
· Develop innovative formulated solutions to customers’ unmet needs.
· Proactive attitude towards a safe working environment and practices
Desirable
· Expert technical competence with hands-on knowledge and experience in compounding plastics using twin and single extruders to measure plastic performance.
· Proactive attitude towards safe working and practices.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong IT skills using MS Office, image processing etc.
· Knowledge of practical and theoretical synthetic organic chemistry.
· Excellent data handling skills with the ability to communicate findings with the wider team.
· Initiative, independent thinking and scientific insight.
· Proactive approach to problem-solving.
· Ability to achieve deadlines in an organized and strategic manner.
Essential
· BSc/MSc in Synthetic Organic or Polymer Chemistry
· 2-5 years industrial experience

Salary: Up to £36,000.00 per year
