RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Engineering (Tubes)
SCOPE:
CPI TMD design and manufacture high power electronic and microwave systems to operate reliably in the harshest environments. This is a demanding role for a chemist who will be responsible for maintaining the chemical integrity for the day to day running of the CPI TMD Chemical cleaning and plating shop. This includes a degreasing and chemical cleaning line and facilities for copper, nickel and gold plating, aluminium chromate coating and chemical, metallographic analysis. Aid and advice on all things related to use of chemicals within the business and be aligned with our ISO 14001accreditation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyse and maintain the cleaning and plating tanks to ensure quality control of the cleaning and plating processes.
Seek ways to improve the processes to improve technical quality and cost effectiveness.
Assist other Production teams in chemically related matters.
Working with our product engineering teams, developing and introducing processes.
Develop new processes and procedures to aid with the manufacture of new products.
Maintenance of specialist equipment in the areas.
To investigate and solve production problems relating to chemical processing
To design and develop robust chemical processes to time and cost to support product/process development.
To ensure that configuration control practices are maintained, in line with the appropriate company procedures.
Drive PV programmes to completion within budget
To comply with the Company’s Health and Safety policy.
Ensure that all activities within the department are carried out in accordance with documented processes, specifications and quality requirements.
Ensure that all process information is updated when necessary and complies with current specification s and drawings.
Develop and train staff working in the cleaning and plating shop to ensure that the key skills are adequately covered.
Training operators in safe working practice and correct use of the processes in chemical cleaning and plating areas.
Health, Safety and Environment
Support producing and implementing safe working procedures in all matters relating to the use of chemicals.
Responsible for safe and catalogued storage of all chemical waste whilst on site.
Fulfill the role and current requirements of the chemical hazard officer (HS009 and H&S policy EVT3439 Issue 8).
Maintain company COSHH assessments, including annual reviews.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
- Knowledge of chemical processing, including cleaning, plating and chromating
- Knowledge of methods of chemical analysis
- Understanding of vacuum tubes requirements relating to chemical processing
- Knowledge of chemical composition of metallic and non-metallic materials used in the manufacture of vacuum tubes
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree level relevant qualification in chemistry or relevant subject
- GCSE or equivalent in English Language.
