What will you be doing?
- Working alongside an AZ scientist in the laboratory using groundbreaking technology to:
- Design synthetic routes for drug substance
- Develop robust well understood sustainable processes suitable for scale-up and manufacture or drug substance
- Use your chemistry knowledge to tackle problems
- Technology transfer of drug substance methods to manufacturing
- Learn about process safety and hazards of a chemical reaction
- Helping to design, develop and implement best practice in Chemical Development

AstraZeneca are looking to appoint students enrolled on the Royal Society of Chemistry Broadening Horizons programme. Passion, integrity and a sense of fun are key to this role, as well as the ability to work as part of a team! You should be curious about industrial chemistry and passionate about using groundbreaking science to develop and deliver medicines which make a difference to patients’ lives. You should also have a good academic background and be prepared to apply your knowledge of chemistry and the patient in a practical way.
This role is aimed at students who are interested in gaining practical work experience, developing their understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, building a network and seeing where their skills may align with a future career within the pharmaceutical industry. .
What can we offer you?
Summer placement positions are available at our Macclesfield (Cheshire) site. The Internships is available in Chemical Development, Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) team. During the (8-12) week placement you will gain a useful insight into the Pharmaceutical industry and the variety of opportunities available to Chemists within our organisation.
Role requirements.
Applications for Summer Placement will be open until 31/03/2023 and you can expect to hear from us by early April. Interviews will be held mid April and will be virtual. The placements will take place from late June for (8-12) weeks. A salary will be paid.
Applicants must be a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry Broadening Horizons programme and this will be checked during the application process.
