The role of Chef/Cook is to run our staff canteen in a purpose-built food manufacturing facility in Middlesbrough. Typically working a day shift only (estimated 8am - 4.30pm but hours may need to flex to ensure optimum service levels are delivered) with an occasional requirement to work or cover absences on weekeends, this is an exciting newly created role which will give the right person the opportunity to create and manage a canteen menu whilst also supporting the New Product Development team with samples.About the RoleDevelop and be responsible for a weekly canteen menu (approx. 300 staff members on site) to ensure breakfast and lunch items are available every dayManage stock, purchases and waste; making use of supplier samples, short-dated ingredients and working with our onsite teams to be creative and keep choices varied for our dedicated staff teamTaking food orders at point of sale whilst also creating an ordering system so that meals can be ordered and paid for, ready for collction at break timesHandle cash transactions, operating the POS system and cash up/balance each dayEnsure all food safety legislation is adhered to and appropriate documentation is completed in a timely mannerManage the kitchen team, ensuring that excellent operations and customer service is maintained throughout the weekWork with the NPD Manager and the NPD team to assist in making up samples for manufacturing, completing taste tests and running taste test panels where requiredAbout YouPrevious experience in the food industry is key to success in this roleFood safety and HACCP qualifications are essentialC&G/NVQ in food-related courses would enhance your applicationPrevious experience of setting up rotas to cover all hours required, allocating tasks and building a strong team are all key features of the roleExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentStrong attention to detail, with a particular focus on numeracy and literacyAbility to multitask and prioritise tasks effectivelyFlexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as neededMust be reliable, punctual, and have a positive attitudeWe offer flexible scheduling and an opportunities to make this role your own.
