Certified Nursing Assistant (SNF); Job Summary Introduction

Job Description
Position Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) helps residents with activities of daily living such as; hygiene, toileting, feeding, moving safely to activities or functions, and caring for the resident's environment, including laundry and housekeeping. The Certified Nursing Assistant must be sensitive to the needs and desires of each resident, and make an attempt to improve and enrich their lives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicates with residents and families regarding care
- Measures and records vital signs, such as temperature, pulse, etc., and reports any changes in condition
- Cleans and organizes the resident’s room and assists with laundry
- Helps residents to and from daily activities
- Helps residents at mealtimes and monitors residents' eating habits
- Helps residents with all personal care functions as needed
- Ensures that the required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Attends all staff meetings, trainings, and educational classes as required
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must have a genuine desire to help others and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed
- Able to work a flexible schedule, which may include working days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and problem solving skills, including the ability to maintain composure under stress.
Educational Requirements and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- Certified Nurse's Aid and/or Nursing Assistant certificate in the appropriate state.
- Certification in CPR/AED/First Aid
- At least one year of experience, preferably in a long-term care setting, or an assisted living community.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Language Ability:
- Ability to communicate effectively speaking the primary language of the residents.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write/type routine reports and correspondence
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Cognitive Demands:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
- Basic computer skills required.
Competencies:
- Must demonstrate an interest in working with a senior population.
- Interacts with guests, residents, and staff in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Responds promptly to residents needs.
- Supports organization's goals and values
- Balances team and individual responsibilities.
