Do you have a strong customer focus with exceptional people skills? Do you have a good command of written and verbal English? Are you experienced in admin and/or clerical duties, including diary management? Are you looking for a role that marks a milestone in someone’s life?

Our Registration Service is a statutory service delivered by the Council on behalf of the Registrar General and the General Register Office (GRO), which is part of the Home Office. Our main purpose is to create accurate and timely records of all births, still-births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships occurring across North Yorkshire. We also offer other services such as citizenship ceremonies, and non-statutory civil ceremonies such as Renewal of Vows.

The role
As our Ceremonies Assistant you will be responsible for providing a high quality, prompt and professional service for the booking and organisation of statutory and non-statutory ceremonies in North Yorkshire and contribute to the development of such services in line with the County Council’s corporate aims and objectives. This is a non-customer facing role where communication with our customers is primarily via email and telephone. Working arrangements are flexible and a mix of home and office working can be offered.

This role offers you the opportunity for career development, and to train and participate in some ceremonies.

You will join a supportive team in the Skipton office. The working days are Monday to Friday, weekend ceremonies are voluntary and flexible and for which you will receive an enhanced payment. Ceremonies are not just at the Registration Office, you may be required to perform ceremonies in any of our approved venues, either way you will have a chance to be part of someone’s special day.

What you will bring
You will be confident, diplomatic with a good command of written and verbal English with an accuracy of spelling. You must also be able to demonstrate a high standard of professional service delivery and positive customer focus. You should have experience of dealing with the general public, preferably in a frontline service, with good communication and organisational skills and the ability to deal with customers from all backgrounds, sometimes in difficult situations. Attention to detail and accuracy are also vital in this role.
