Hours - 2 early, 2 late, 2 night, 4 rest days

The key functions of a Camera Operator are to provide a professional, accurate, effective CCTV and ANPR monitoring service to reduce crime. To ensure integrity, accuracy and confidentiality of all information gained is secure at all times by strict compliance with operational procedures and codes of practice. To be able to identify and manage risk when assessing CCTV and ANPR reports to enable safe and effective allocation of appropriate police resources.
- Proactively monitor Birmingham Citywatch cameras to protect the public and capture intelligence and evidential footage.
- Monitor police Airwave talkgroups to provide CCTV support for live reactive incidents.
- Monitor and update ControlWorks Incidents to provide intelligence information to progress the resolution of live incidents.
- Proactively monitor Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system and follow vehicle of interest on camera to assist with the vehicle being stopped.
- On occasion, due to your expert knowledge, it will be necessary to provide live time commentary following an ANPR alert.
- The ability to interrogate police ANPR systems to provide intelligence regarding patterns of movement of vehicles of interest.
- Monitor and respond to retail and night time economy radio links including communication with users of these radio systems.
- Liaise with CCTV partners from local authorities, retail and night time economy CCTV control rooms in relation to live incidents.
- Liaise with law enforcement colleagues in relation to the covert use of overt public space CCTV cameras.
- Perform daily checks of the CCTV system to ensure any faults with equipment are actioned promptly.
- Keep up to date audit trail of any CCTV footage that has been reviewed.
- Work as part of a team, adhering to Force Values.

- Effective communication skills with internal colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Security Industry Authority (SIA) CCTV Public Space Surveillance Licence holder - If this Licence isn’t held, then it must be attained prior to commencing in the post.
- Able to work under pressure and prioritise workload with minimal supervision.
- Ability to remain professional at all times in relation to behaviour and communication with others.
