Job: High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapist
Salary: Band 7
The post holder will be part of an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service and will provide high intensity interventions - initially cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). The post holder will work with clients who have a range of complex Anxiety and Depression related problems for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective.
The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.
Will also consider part time hours
The service working hours are 8am to 8pm
Part-time considered.
Suitable for applications from trainees due to complete courses in the near future.
Main duties of the job
Sandwell Talking Therapies Service within the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service to the local population of Walsall.
The service offers a number of evidence-based psychological interventions both at step 2 and step 3 as proposed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance.
The service endeavours to offer the local population a full range of evidence-based psychological interventions, within a stepped care approach, to a high standard and quality .
We are excited to begin a process of expanding our team in-line with IAPT expansion targets and we are now seeking five permanent and full-time High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapists to join and contribute to the innovation and success of our well-established IAPT service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holders will work alongside other High Intensity Psychological Therapists (HIPIs), and will be required to assist in providing step 3 interventions and contributing to the development of the step 3 service being offered.
The step 3 service primarily offers one-to-one evidenced-based psychological treatments, which ordinarily had been face-to-face; however since COVID restrictions these have been completed entirely through telephone/video consultation and the service intends to maintain this as an offer for our clients moving forward.
The service endeavours to introduce group interventions at step 3 and post holders will be key in developing and shaping the content and delivery of step 3 disorder specific groups to sit alongside the aforementioned interventions.

Qualification
Essential criteria
- Postgradate Diploma in High Intensity Psychological Interventions - CBT
- Eligible for BABCP accreditation (i.e. training was through a BABCP level two accredited course)
Desirable criteria
- EMDR Practitioner
- Completed Training in Long Term Conditions
- Full or provisional accreditation with the BABCP
Experience
Essential criteria
- Worked in a Primary Care Mental Health Service as a CBT Therapist
- Ability to meet service targets
- Ability to manage your own caseload and time
- Experience with routine outcome monitoring
Desirable criteria
- Experience of teaching or liasing with other Health Professionals
- Working with long term physical health conditions
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demontrates an understanding of the stepped care model and the need to use Evidence Based Treatment
- Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post
- Knowledge in relation to Safeguarding - Adults and Children
- Knowledge of medication used in Anxiety and Depression
Skills
Essential criteria
- Full range of skills and competencies in line with the Roth and Pilling Framework
- To be able to supervise other staff
- Completed training in risk management
- Able to develop therapeutic relationships with clients
Desirable criteria
- To communicate effectively with others - written, verbal
