Background to Service:
Cardiff and Vale Drug and Alcohol Service (CAVDAS) is an Alliance of Barod, Recovery Cymru and Kaleidoscope Project with strategic partners G4S and Pobl. CAVDAS Alliance has been commissioned by the Cardiff and Vale Substance Misuse Area Planning board.
CAVDAS services will deliver specialist support and interventions across Youth Justice Services, Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) Cardiff Council Housing Services, Counselling, Recovery and Aftercare, Volunteering and Service User Involvement, Rapid Access Prescribing (RAPS), structured interventions, peer support and mutual aid, Harm Reduction and Work Force Development. CAVDAS will deliver an integrated young person’s, adults and family and carer information, advice, interventions, and support service. CAVDAS will work across Cardiff and Vale Health and Social Care partners, and forums to co-produce services delivering outcomes in the way that people want. We are looking to build a new culture providing one system for Cardiff and Vale and a unified, innovative, and flexible delivery model.
Purpose of the role:
To facilitate referrals and accurate record keeping for all initial contact points of CAVDAS.
The role will monitor the Single Point of Contact CAVDAS email, website ‘contact us’ notifications and Single Point of Contact telephone number for Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan. They will be responsible for updating and facilitating initial referrals, signposting, and ensuring appropriate response for specialist support and information.
They will liaise and communicate with professionals across the wider Health and Social Care system promoting harm reduction messages and positive engagement with all Cardiff and Vale citizens. The SPOC role will be focal for reducing stigma associated with accessing substance use specialist support and providing advice and guidance that reduces harm to individuals, their loved one’s and the wider community associated with substance use.
They will have excellent communication skills, be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, across agency cultures including those within statutory, private and voluntary sector partnerships. The post holder must be flexible and efficient, to ensure services are delivered equitably and with the service user at the heart of delivery.
They will have a non-judgmental approach to people who have recognised that their use has become problematic and be able to provide a welcoming and accessible service to existing and potential service users.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- To provide a central referral and information point for those who wish to make a referral to CAVDAS.
- Provide initial screening and assessment and facilitate internal referral to appropriate service teams.
- Supply information regarding substance use and associated lifestyle behaviours that reduces the risk of overdose, reduces the spread of blood borne viruses, promotes healthy living, and minimises the potential risks and impact of drug related crime and disorder on the wider community via the SPOC
- Market and publicise the SPOC, considering the needs of the different target groups (drug users, alcohol users and concerned others)
- To provide information on differing treatment models and services available for individuals with substance use problems throughout Cardiff and The Vale.
- Collect, collate, analyse, and report on data in line with the service specification.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of risk assessment and risk management plans to mitigate risk of harm to self, others and the wider community associated with substance use.
- Liaise closely with health and social care service providers such as Cardiff and The Vale of Glamorgan Social Services teams, Family Drug and Alcohol Court, C&VUHB (CAU /DATT/Newlands/Pine Ward) to assist with seamless transitions to and from CAVDAS.
- Enter data onto the C&VUHB / CAVDAS case management system PARIS and use the system effectively to inform work with service users and concerned others.
- To undertake any administrative function related to the role to a high standard, in a competent and timely fashion.
- To actively influence and support service user motivation to stop using drugs and alcohol.
- Assist with the production of leaflets, marketing material and web pages.
- Contribute to the writing of reports and compiling statistics on the SPOC
- To ensure appropriate crisis intervention is available where necessary and appropriate
- Promote and encourage the utilisation of self-help manuals.
