Catering Assistant part time

16 hours, 37 weeks per year, start 1st September 2023

Working Hours - Tuesday - Friday 11:00 – 15:00, term time only

Actual Salary for 37 weeks working 16 hours - £7,244

Salary FTE £22,192 all starting salaries dependent on age, qualifications and experience

We are seeking to appoint an additional staff member to work as part of the catering team based at Freeman College.

Freeman College, based in Sheffield City Centre is an independent specialist college and part of the Ruskin Mill Trust, educating young people aged 16-25 years old.

Ideally you will have experience of working in a catering environment and able to manage and prioritise a varied workload. A Food Hygiene certificate would be advantageous; however, full training will be provided.

Experience of working with vulnerable young people with learning disabilities would be an advantage, as you will be required to work with students under the supervision of the Catering Manager.

Main Duties to include:

· Preparation of food and cooking at Freeman College to deliver a lunch time service for students and staff which meets the nutritional needs of the students so they can engage with their education

· Cleaning of food areas, including the kitchen, its surrounds and equipment

· Promoting the Seed to Table curriculum through lunches using biodynamic and organic seasonal produce

· The serving of meals ensuring presentation is to the required standard

· Assist with washing up, clearing and cleaning duties as required

· To ensure food hygiene and health and safety regulations are adhered to at all times

· A flexible and professional approach to work is required

We are ideally looking for someone who has worked in a catering role who has experience of delivering and co-ordinating a lunchtime service and has experience of working with young people who have special educational needs. However, we appreciate that there may be excellent candidates for the role who do not yet have experience in all three areas so we are open to applications with experience who are willing to commit to further professional development.

The successful candidate must have excellent customer service skills, be personal and friendly and willing to learn and develop.
