Job description
Do you want the best job in the Environment Agency? The opportunity of a lifetime is available in the form of either a permanent and potentially a 12 month assignment as a Catchment Coordinator in Yorkshire. This role will give the successful candidate the opportunity and freedom to drive environmental improvements in the catchment’s rivers, working with colleagues across Yorkshire Area and with many valued external partners.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fantastic team delivering environmental outcomes through the Yorkshire Area Environment Programme. The team is made up of catchment co-coordinators and project managers, delivering environmental enhancement projects and working with catchment based partnerships. The team has high ambitions for Yorkshire’s environment so we are looking for someone with energy and vision who can deliver innovative approaches to project development, partnership working and future funding.

Key to this role will be integrating partners and colleagues to deliver better outcomes, developing projects and building networks. The role will require you to forge partnerships to deliver more for the environment. You will work to a catchment boundary. The role is extremely varied and no one day is the same as another!

As responding to incidents is a central part of what we do, you will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
The Yorkshire Area Environment Programme deliver a variety of environmental projects working in partnership. The team is a high performing team focussing on integrated outcomes to deliver multiple benefits for the environment using the most efficient and cost effective ways of working. The team relies on developing strong internal and external partnerships to deliver results.

The team is co-located across Yorkshire and some travel is required. Anyone applying should live within commutable distance of Yorkshire.
Experience/skills required
Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:

  • Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
  • An appreciation of environmental policies (including Water Framework Directive, 25 Year Environment Plan)
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills are a must as you’ll be working with a diverse range of people
  • We welcome all backgrounds, preferably in an interest in environment, geography, or science discipline.
Contact and additional information
We strive to reflect the communities we serve and welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of race, sexual orientation, and religion.

You’ll have access to our great benefits package, including generous annual leave, an excellent pension, flexible working arrangements and the opportunity to be part of a variety of staff networks. We also offer extensive training to develop your career.

We do not accept CVs and so your answers to the below competencies will be used for selection. Please see the competency dictionary within the candidate pack - you may find it helpful to use the STAR approach when answering.

Interviews are expected to be scheduled for end of June 2023. We would recommend you contact [email protected] or [email protected] for further information about this role.
