The YMCA Newark & Sherwood Climbing Wall is looking for experienced, passionate climbers to join our team of casual staff to help cover busy periods, holidays, sickness and be part of our future team expansion!
As we expand our timetable and add more climbing sessions, we are looking to recruit additional Climbing Assistants on a casual basis covering days, evenings and weekends.
As part of our brand new Community & Activity Village in Newark, we are exceptionally proud and excited to open the Climbing Centre comprising:
15m high main wall with lead, top rope and 17 auto belays
Speed wall with timer, for competitions and speed climbing
15m climbing wall and overhand, with 19 lines with over 40 routes
Vertical and slab climbing; including lead routes, top ropes and auto belays
6m top rope area with five lines and over 10 routes
Three bouldering areas with seven coloured circuits, totalling 80+ boulder problems, catering for beginner, intermediate and advanced boulderers
Clip 'n Climb area, geared towards young people, with 12 different challenges
6m top rope training wall with 5 belays
Viewing area
Your main responsibility will be to supervise the use of the Climbing Centre and supervising the use of Clip and Climb area for all visitors.
You will assist with sessions for all ages and abilities, ensuring an exceptional visitor experience.
You will need to following Health & Safety procedures and YMCA Newark & Sherwood policies and procedures at all times and attending training where required.
We are happy to support you to become a fully qualified instructor should you wish to pursue additional qualifications!
You will also:
Operate within Health & Safety procedures, understand the policies and procedures and attend training where required.
Ensure that all operating procedures are adhered to, with no compromises to health and safety, ensuring that all climbers have completed/obtained the necessary pre-session requirements.
Maintaining the highest customer service standards
Ensuring that all necessary checks are carried out regularly on all climbing walls and that boulders and climbing routes are reset on a regular basis to a high standard to keep the climbing facility fresh and interesting for visitors.
Ensure the Climbing Centre is clean and tidy for visitors.
Dealing with accidents and incidents as they arrive, recording appropriately.
Using your own previous climbing experience, you will be hands on to instruct adults and children of all abilities.
We would look for you to be flexible and be available to work evenings and weekends where required, mostly rota ed in advance but able to cover at short notice if needed.
About You
We are looking for someone with a really unique mix of skills to manage this fantastic venue. You will have experience of working in the climbing wall industry. You will be a passionate and experienced climber first and foremost who has turned their passion into a career.
Ideally, you will hold relevant climbing instructor qualifications including first aid. We are though, most interested in your relevant experience and passion for climbing!
