Job description
Applicant will be required to assist myself (business owner) in constructing timber framed garden buildings from scratch.
We are looking for someone who is above all keen to learn (if not already trained), punctual, and willing to put in the graft. The work is challenging but ultimately very rewarding. It requires us to be physically able, and sometimes mathematic and pragmatic in working out the spacings and angles of finer carpentry.
Example processes include but not limited to:
- Cutting batches of timber on a mitre saw
- Digging foundations and trenches
- Assisting putting together stud walls
- Lifting walls and timbers into place
- Cladding walls
- Insulating
- Plasterboarding/dry-lining
- Interior painting
- Flooring
- General carpentry (skirting & architrave, hanging doors, etc.)
Experience in the above is not absolutely required, I am very happy to train anyone from scratch as long as the right mindset and commitment is applied to learning the trade.
This job is an opportunity to learn or broaden some key building techniques across a relatively board range of skills. We cover almost all of the work involved, including:
- Groundworks
- Timber framing
- Roofing
- 1st fix electrical work
- 1st fix plumbing
- Plasterboarding
- Painting
- Most aspects of carpentry.
A (roughly) 4 week cycle of processes means it's not the same repetitive work every day and means we build key skills in a range of areas.
Driving license preferable but not required.
Applicant will be required to travel to the destination provided in the advert each morning, and I will drive us to wherever we are working on that particular job (usually 10-35mins away)
Schedule is Tuesday to Friday, meet at 7.40am and finish on site at 5pm. Daily rate will be based on experience and work output and reliability, with potential to earn more as you become more capable.
