Job Duties:
CARPENTER II
Performs a wide variety of building repairs, renovations and construction tasks. Work involves receiving work order assignments from supervisor to perform a variety of tasks such as:
- General maintenance, preventative maintenance and repair of city buildings and facilities.
- Repair furniture, doors, windows, locks, door closures, panic bars and all types of roofs.
- Pour concrete, assist in framing, trim, siding, cornice, roofing and cabinetry on public building and facilities.
- Operate a pressure washer. Have knowledge of repair and installation of brick pavers.
- Use a multitude of tools and equipment associated with the trade to construct and repair various wood articles.
- May also be required to move furniture.
- Effectively assist in building or repairing all types of structures in accordance with standard of the trade.
- Correctly operate hand and power tools following all safety procedures.
- Perform assigned work in accordance with instructions.
- Maintain a clean safe work environment to include work vehicle and job site.
- Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described in the job description.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: High School, or GED, plus four (4) years experience in carpentry work in the capacity of General Carpenter, Floor Covering Installer, Roofer, Framer, or Form Carpenter; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.

Preferences:
Preventative maintenance, renovation and new construction experience to include:
Finish carpentry experience to include Interior and exterior trim work.
Framing and rough carpentry.
Repair and installation of all types of siding, roofing, and commercial flooring.
Removing, forming and pouring concrete.
Maintenance, repair and installation of residential and commercial flooring, doors and windows, and locks and hardware.
Experience installing pavers
Pressure washing experience
Record keeping experience
Customer service experience
Ability to read, understand and work from blueprints.
Ability to train and direct the work of others.
Ability to prepare detailed reports, cost estimates and specifications.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with merchants, the public, supervisor and co-workers.
