Job description

The DRC is recruiting on behalf of a family who are looking to recruit a female carer / Personal Assistant to support a young lady who has ataxia telangiectasia, which affects the nervous system, immune system, and other body systems. This means that she is unable to walk, eat or carry out personal care tasks independently. Support is therefore needed with personal care, maintaining a nutritional diet and eating. There is also support required for household tasks such as laundry and cleaning. The successful applicant will be punctual, reliable, empathetic and encouraging and motivating in a supportive way.

The job is based in a family home in Luton and out in the community.

Hours of work:

2 days per week, Thursday and Friday, 7 hour shifts. Support is provided by another Personal Assistant on other days and additional hours may be available to cover absence.

Some weekend work is available for activities.

Support includes:

  • Personal care including showering and dressing
  • Preparing and support with eating and drinking meals throughout the day
  • Support with accessing the community to go to health appointments
  • Support with going to social activities such as the cinema and concerts
  • Household tasks such as laundry and cleaning

This is not an exclusive list of tasks and other tasks may be required as advised

Experience:

Previous experience in a care setting is not essential but may be an advantage. The successful candidate will be able to use their own initiative and have a positive attitude.

  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Own vehicle
