Job Title: Support Worker
Responsible to: Directly accountable to and taking direction from the employer (Mum)
Hours: 4 hours per week - Ideally a work shift on a Saturday or Sunday but could be flexible
Hourly Rate of Pay: £11.50
Based at: Employer’s own home in Long Melford, Suffolk and out in the local community
Job Purpose
The purpose of the job is to support and be a friendly companion to a 9 year old boy who has autism. The candidate must be friendly, outgoing, have patience, have excellent communication skills, have quick reactions and have a good sense of humour. It is preferred you have had experience with working with children that have SEN / autism needs. The young child is very active and likes being outdoors, he also likes to be independent but requires constant supervision. It is essential that you communicate with the family and form a good relationship.
Main duties:
- Support taking the young boy out within the local community e.g. to the park, for a walk, soft play, playgrounds, swimming etc
- Constant supervision is required at all times.
- Support with all safety aspects.
- To be a social friendly companion to the boy.
- You will be required to keep him entertained in the home. To keep him entertained by playing games, watching TV, playing in the garden etc.
- Prompting and supervising the child with toileting, eating etc.
- To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.
Personal Specification
- Flexible in the hours and times that you can work.
- Have a good sense of humour and enjoy a friendly joke.
- You should have a thorough understanding of personal safety.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- You should have knowledge and understanding of risks.
- Resilience and awareness of triggers in managing some behaviours that challenge.
- Be patient and supportive
- Preferred experience with SEN / autism needs / have an understanding of SEN and autism.
- Driver is preferred but not essential

The offer will be made subject to satisfactory references. The post carries a 6 month probationary period.
