Job description
We are looking to hire a caring and energetic individual to provide 1:1 support to a preschool child with a developmental delay. Specific responsibilities include supporting self-care tasks, attending the child's classes, reinforcing strategies to improve communication, and encouraging peer interactions. The ideal candidate has experience working in a preschool program and is familiar with developmental delays.
Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of effective differentiated instruction, under the guidance of classroom and special education teachers
- Engage with, or closely supervise the assigned student at all times
- Model appropriate spoken and written language skills at every opportunity
- Coach assigned student in play skills, social problem solving, and appropriate behavior
- Work with the student on academic tasks specified in the daily lesson plan
- Collect observations and data on student learning and behavior
- Implement supports and consequences specified in the student’s Behavior Intervention Plan
- Respond to student behavior using Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, when a different response is not specified in the behavior plan.
- Prepare adapted materials to meet a student’s individual needs
- Review classroom lesson plans, anticipate challenges, and participate in generating possible solutions
- Ensure that an adult is with the assigned child during all hours specified on the IEP, by being on time to pick up the assigned child from related services, and by moving with the assigned child to all locations, where the child isn’t working 1:1 with another adult
- Accompany assigned child within the total school environment to ensure safe ratios and continue to provide services as appropriate
- Ask for help, when a child’s behavior threatens their own or other’s safety
- Use only Crisis Prevention Institute approved methods of managing escalating behaviors
- Maintain appropriate skills and certification for assigned student(s), for example sign language, Crisis Prevention Institute, or health and safety related trainings
- Take on other responsibilities as assigned
- Engage parents and families in their child’s academic success by fostering an ongoing relationship centered around hopes and dreams
- Participate in the Center City PCS learning community via PLC’s, campus/district professional development, and weekly campus based grade-level planning sessions
- Reflect on teaching by accepting ongoing informal feedback and implement changes based on that feedback
- Following school-wide procedures for attire, behavior, and punctuality (teacher hours are 8:00AM - 4:30PM)
- Attend and participate in occasional school events outside of regular school hours
Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Passed the ParaPro or have an AA or BA and/or have experience working with students with disabilities preferred
- Must be able to show proof of full vaccination for COVID-19
