Salary: £32,348 to £34,308 with progression to £42,155 per annum

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast paced and forward-thinking Careers Service that plays a crucial role in helping students from across the University to identify and progress into a variety of highly fulfilling career destinations.
The role of Careers Consultant is wide ranging and instrumental in supporting students to explore and create opportunities and to develop as professional, adaptable and engaged graduates capable of positively shaping their own futures and that of the world around them. You will work with undergraduate and postgraduate students from a variety of subject disciplines and key responsibilities will include: working in collaboration with academic and professional services staff in the development, delivery and monitoring of School Employability and Enterprise Plans 1:1 careers guidance with students/graduates in your caseload and centrally to support their progression into the job market developing and delivering innovative and interactive workshops centrally and as part of degree programmes establishing and maintaining strong relationships with colleagues across the Careers Service, Faculty and wider university building occupational knowledge and developing relationships with employers leading on team, School or service wide initiatives
You must have a degree (or equivalent) and a professional qualification in careers guidance would be beneficial whilst graduate recruitment / industry experience would also be useful. Enterprising and self-motivated with personal impact, team and communication skills, you will have good understanding of the graduate labour market along with significant experience of 1-1 advice/guidance/coaching and of teaching, training or facilitating group work. You must be able to deal sensitively and productively with students, colleagues, and employers.

Key Accountabilities Conduct 1-1 careers advice sessions with students and graduates of any degree discipline and offer in-depth careers guidance interviews to students and graduates from a designated caseload Liaise and collaborate with academic staff and other stakeholders to both gather and provide information on student attitudes/needs, graduate employment issues and developments in relevant career areas and generally support them in their work as it affects the employability of graduates Negotiate and monitor an annual Employability & Enterprise Action Plan with relevant staff in allocated Schools, Faculties, Graduate Schools and central services. This involves analysing student engagement data and developing appropriate intervention plans informed by this Devise, prepare and deliver a range of interactive group presentations and workshops both centrally and in designated Schools, Faculties and Graduate Schools, based on a number of core themes, to develop the career management skills of the University’s students and graduates Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of a wide range of employers, occupations, recruitment procedures, labour market trends etc. in order to provide a high quality, informed service to our customers. This includes visiting and hosting graduate employers on campus Contribute to the planning and delivery of some of the major careers projects or events on campus: this includes determining the format, recruiting speakers where appropriate, ensuring the delivery and organising publicity Contribute to the implementation of University policy and practice in relation to careers education, information and guidance by representing the Careers Service at appropriate committees Contribute to a range of working parties and within these take responsibility for specific activities e.g. devise core sessions, develop course materials, review workbooks Take the lead for developing the services we offer to specific customer groups: e.g. graduates, international students, disabled students, widening participation Any other duties commensurate with the role and grade of the post May include some occasional evening work for specific core business needs e.g. Hosting employer presentations, workshops and 1-1 interactions with graduates for whom our normal working hours are not appropriate
The Person (Essential)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
An up-to-date understanding of the graduate labour market
A good understanding of the HE sector: its business, latest developments and issues
Thorough awareness of current national developments and issues in Careers Education, Information and Guidance
High level career guidance skills and significant experience of 1-1 advice/guidance work in the workplace or voluntary setting
Ability to devise and deliver interactive group sessions and workshops and significant experience of facilitating group work in the workplace
Self-reliance skills to manage and prioritise a complex workload
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to teamwork and network
Proactive and outward looking approach to making positive new connections

Qualifications
A professional qualification in careers guidance (preferably at Level 7 although we may consider Level 6 for candidates with suitable experience) or a willingness and aptitude to work towards such a qualification
Educated to at least degree level (or equivalent)
