Located between Nottingham and Derby, Erewash Borough comprises both rural Green Belt and the busy towns of Long Eaton and Ilkeston. We are looking for an enthusiastic planning policy professional to join our Policy & Regeneration Team. You will join us at an exciting time as we are currently at a Local Plan examination, having recently submitted the Erewash Core Strategy Review to the Secretary of State.

About the role

The career graded nature of this role makes it suitable for either a recent graduate or someone ready to take the next step in their planning career. The Council will cover the cost of a part time Masters course to enable progression from assistant to officer level, whereas direct entry at officer level (Grade F) is also available to suitably qualified candidates.

You will need to bring enthusiasm and dedication to the role which involves all aspects of planning policy work, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality planning service. Duties involve preparing evidence for a Local Plan Inquiry and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders in the preparation of policy documents.

You must be able to demonstrate up-to-date planning policy knowledge, a recognised town planning qualification or equivalent and be eligible for membership of the RTPI.

This post is full time and is based at Long Eaton Town Hall. There may be a requirement occasionally to work outside of normal office hours in consultations or to attend committee meetings.

What do we offer you?

In addition to a generous annual leave entitlement, the Council can offer:

  • Free workplace car parking within the Borough;
  • Opportunities for training, learning and continuous professional development;
  • Family friendly and flexible working policies;
  • Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS);
  • Subsidised leisure membership with the Fit for Work scheme
