The role of the Care Assistant/Care Support worker is to provide care and assist with personal care, medication, and general welfare of service users in their own homes or service location. Care assistants/care workers are required to start work early and finish late at night with breaks and gaps in between calls.
Shifts are dependent on contracts and agreed on working patterns. This job is ideally suited to someone who likes to be outdoors and enjoys walking, driving, or cycling. It is important to have a friendly attitude, caring, and to be well-presented while on duty.
Annual salary: £21,801
Weekly Hours of work: 44 hours per week/ 4-5 days a week shift pattern.
Annual leave: 28 days
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Routinely oversee and monitor care workers and home carers. Take responsibility for the shift and for the service while on duty. Respond to emergencies and provide guidance and support to care workers. Assist and enable service users to dress, undress, wash, use the toilet, and bathe. Serve meals to service users at the table or in bed, and assists with feeding if required. General day-to-day activities such as light cleaning, laundry, and providing service users with the utmost best personal care while protecting their dignity and respect. Assist with service users’ overall comfort and well-being. Provide interest and activities to stimulate and engage the service user. To support medication administration. Help with daily activities such as letter writing, paying bills, and collecting benefits. To help service users with mobility problems and other physical disabilities. Undertake light cleaning and domestic duties including meal preparation as required. To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of service users through talking to them, taking them out, and sharing with their activities such as reading, writing, hobbies, and recreation. To make and change beds; tidy rooms; do light cleaning and empty commodes. Monitor service users’ conditions by taking temperature, pulse, respiration, and weight and contribute to record keeping. To support services users to access services and facilities. Liaise with professional staff in carrying out care plans etc. Ensure availability to attend shifts at the client’s home/care locations.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: Prospective candidates are required to hold a minimum of RQF (Formerly NVQ) Level 3 in health and social care or equivalent or working towards this. Nursing qualifications are also acceptable.
A background in health and social care is required and the candidates must have achieved a qualification in this area. Background checks including a DBS check are required or 10 Year overseas police check report will be required if you are employed from outside the United Kingdom.
