Job description
Daily care of a range of animals, including equine, livestock, small animals and exotics in an animal sanctuary/ care farm with an SEN primary school on site.
Some weekend shifts. Bank holiday work.
Must have GCSE English and maths and at least a Level 2 animal care qualification or equivalent, experience and confidence with both equines and small animals is essential.
This is a hands-on role taking direct responsibility for the care of our rescued and rehabilitated animals. You'll be supporting a dedicated support worker team providing therapy and education to SEND students through both a classroom and outdoor setting. You will be required to work alongside and coordinate volunteers, so clear communication and organisational skills are key.
Animal welfare is at our heart. As a care farm technician, you will be at the forefront of health and welfare monitoring and responsible for responding to and reporting on our animals to the supervisor and managers.
This role is outdoors all year round and can be physically demanding. A high standard of work and efficient pace is essential. Equine experience and competence is also a must; yard work is a major part of the daily routine. The role requires the all round husbandry, handling and health checking of horses, goats, poultry, dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, reptiles and some exotic mammals. We welcome progressive, innovative and forward- thinking animal care practitioners who can blend animal- centred husbandry with practicality.
Good written and verbal communication and IT skills are essential to liaise effectively with the team and with management.
A supportive programme of training and professional development will be given.
The role requires an enhanced DBS check. A clean driving licence with access to your own vehicle is an advantage but not essential.
