JOB TITLE: Care Assistant
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Nurse in Charge / Manager
SHIFTS:
DAYS - 8am to 8pm Weekdays and Weekends NIGHTS - 8pm to 8am Weekdays and Weekends.
SCOPE:
The Poplars is a busy 43 bed Home, providing both residential and nursing care, Dementia care, end of life and respite care.
We are looking for enthusiastic, hard working and caring staff to join our team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To ensure the residents are socially presentable in appearance at all times, taking into account their choices and to ensure that residents have their aids e.g. - Dentures, Hearing Aids, Spectacles etc, fitted, cleaned and in working order.
To assist in the daily care of the residents, helping with dressing / undressing, washing, bathing and personal hygiene where necessary and help residents with problems of mobility and other physical disabilities (e.g. promoting continence), helping them with the use of disability aids and caring for the same, where appropriate.
To help serve food, assisting residents with eating and drinking as required. To monitor their intake and complete diet and fluid charts after each intake and report and concerns to the Nurse in charge or Senior Carer. To prepare light meals and snacks if required, liaising with kitchen staff as necessary.
To help clear up the dining room after meals, ensuring all dirty cutlery, crockery and utensils are returned to the kitchen.
To help make and change beds, and assist with domestic duties such as tidying rooms and emptying commodes as required.
To collect residents' dirty clothing and take to the laundry. To assist residents with the completion and subsequent checking-off of their laundry and to pay due respect to residents' possessions. To ensure that items for laundry are sluiced, if soiled, before placing into correct linen bags.
To work a varied shift pattern in accordance with the needs of the service and to ensure readiness to commence work at the time stated on the Duty Rotas and not to abandon duty without permission from the Nurse.
To adhere to the policy relating to personal appearance, hygiene and the uniform policy whilst on duty.
To work at all times, within the guidelines of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Employee Handbook and Company Health and Safety Policy and Procedure
To help with the organisation of social activities, and to participate in them to help promote residents' esteem and physical and mental well-being.
12) To read and assist in the electronic writing of residents’ care plans and write daily reports on Electronic handsets as directed.
13) To complete all repositioning , food and fluid charts and any other daily monitoring records on the PCS Electronic System as requested, in a timely manner and alerting the Nurse or Senior Carer of any concerns .
14) To report to the Nurse/Senior Carer any changes in residents’ condition and any other relevant matter, noting especially any changes in skin condition, i.e. bruises, swelling and skin tears and documenting these on the residents’ care documentation.
15) To be aware of all fire exit means of escape from the Home and attend fire drills and fire training.
16) To complete all Company Health and Safety and Fire checks as requested.
17) To report any accidents or unexplained injuries immediately to the Nurse/Senior Carer and complete a body map and accident form.
18) To assist in the cleaning of the Home as the need arises. To ensure that bedrooms and communal areas are tidy and presentable and to read and implement the Company Policy and Procedure for Infection Control.
19) To ensure the appropriate segregation of waste material and that it is disposed of in accordance with current Legislation and Company Policy and Procedure for Infection Control.
20) To report to the Manager any verbal concerns or complaints raised by the service user or visitors and document the complaint.
21) To report any concerns re possible abuse of a resident, immediately to the Manager .
22) To recognise your own limitations and to seek guidance from Seniors and Nurses as appropriate.
23) To refer all enquiries regarding the care or condition of residents to the Nurse or Senior, irrespective of the source of the enquiry.
24) To undertake any training necessary for the completion of your duties. To be aware of Mandatory training and dates to attend training and to attend staff and other meetings as requested.
25) Ensure all equipment, including wheelchairs and hoists, is clean and well maintained and any defects are reported in the maintenance book.
26) To respect the confidentiality of the residents and the home life at all times, including when you are using Social networking systems and not to have a mobile phone whilst on duty and to promote the good reputation of the Home at all times.
27) To participate in staff and residents' meetings as appropriate.
28) To assist with caring for residents who are for End-of-Life Care and support them, their relatives and other staff member as needed.
29) To answer promptly all nurse alarm calls, assessing each situation and dealing with any resident who is seeking help. In cases of emergency dial 999 and follow instructions.
30) To undertake other duties, as necessary.
