Care Assistant - Flexible hours Shrewsbury, England

MacIntyre Charity
Full Time Shrewsbury, England 9.7 GBP HOURLY Today
Job description

Are you looking for a Support Worker job with FLEXIBLE HOURS where no experience is required as we will provide you with all necessary training?

We're looking for Support Workers to join the team at Bradbury Bungalow, which is home to three charming gentlemen aged 50 to 70, who each have a learning disability. Between the three of them 2 of the men use wheelchairs and a tracking hoist, which doesn't stop them in doing the things they love!

How Relief hours work

It's a bit like a zero-hour contract but without the bad bits.

  • You don't have to work when it's not convenient for you.
  • Receive the same training towards professional qualifications as permanent staff.
  • We offer these contracts not because it suits us but because it suits you.
  • With over 95% of our staff are on permanent contracts you will be supported to apply for one when its right for you.
  • Job security and career development

The Relief (Bank) post supports the permanent rota staff by completing shifts that are vacant due to annual leave, training and other staff absences. As such, hours are non-specific, but your manager will endeavour to balance the needs of the service against your own work/life balance as appropriately as possible.

We normally plan the rotas one month in advance, but additional opportunities also come up due to unexpected staff absences.

Intrigued to know a bit more about them?

Let us introduce you to the wonderful David*! He enjoys watching films on Netflix, solving puzzles, colouring and playing darts. David uses sign language to communicate, however he is happy to teach anyone the basic signs.

Peter* likes nothing more than a good laugh and joke over endless cups of tea!

Ben* is an ABBA fanatic! (Who isn't?!) He enjoys listening to Abba and attends every Abba tribute concert held at the local theatre/venues. His love for dogs, especially Collies would be the ultimate ice breaker!

They all enjoy trips to the pub, have a great sense of humour and likes nothing more than hearing jokes over tea and biscuits. Having a good Chinese take away would be their ideal Saturday Night routine!

This is just a taste of their uniqueness!

What will you be doing?

The role involves supporting the men to get ready for their day ahead, weather that be a trip to the gym or a morning at home, you will need to help them choose appropriate clothing. Although this may seem daunting, full training will be given and you will working alongside experienced colleagues. Your colleagues will tell you it's a very rewarding job where no two days are the same.

Another nice feeling is handing over your Blue Light discount card and making savings at the checkout. This is just one of the many ways we like to reward our employees.
