What does this Care Assistant job involve?

Hours of Work: Varied Weekday and weekend hours between: 06:30 to 21:30

  • As a Care Assistant, you will support people with dementia, learning and physical disabilities in their own homes and the community
  • Locations you will be covering Hemel Hempstead and surrounding areas
  • Basic housekeeping such as cooking and light cleaning
  • Personal Care (e.g. using the toilet, washing and bathing)
  • Accompanying clients to the shops and appointments
  • Supporting clients to lead an independent life
  • Medication support

Our carers have a range of different roles. Visits range from 30 minutes to live-in care and our earliest visit starts at 6:30am and the last shift ends at about 9pm. Duties vary and our mission is all about enabling clients to be independent for as long as possible. Notwithstanding, care given will often reflect the time of day and individual needs of a client. Morning visits are predominantly about supporting clients to get ready for the day. This involves personal care, support with breakfast and medication. All visits are assessed and the client agrees on when and how their care is delivered. Evening visits will be the reverse and will be about settling the client into bed and will involve, support in nutrition, medication, refreshing and getting into bed.

Companionship is an integral part of what we do. Many of our clients have no family or friends living nearby and having a friendly chat with a familiar face can make all the difference. We also believe this is where true care lies. A task can be taught, compassion comes from within.

Am I the right person for this Care Assistant job?

  • Some previous exposure to care (e.g. work/personal experiences)
  • A flexible attitude and organised approach
  • A driving licence and access to transport in order to travel between our client’s homes and access the community
  • Willingness to learn and develop
  • Health and Social Care qualification or equivalent is advantageous
  • You may be looking for additional hours to work around your personal commitments, or you may be studying a Health & Social Care course. Our vacancies are suitable for those wanting to progress within home care, live-in, or night sit care environments.
