Become a PSV Mechanic in 10 weeks with Arriva!
Having had great success in the past with mechanics from Light Vehicle/HGV backgrounds, we are excited to announce we are offering a training programme designed to upskill to fully qualified PSV Mechanics in just 10 weeks.
Our PSV Mechanic Training Programme will cover: Health & Safety, Electrical, Airbrake, Mechanical, Suspension, CAN line systems and Hybrid and EV vehicles, following successful completion. The modules are also designed to cover ramp and door system maintenance along with MOT preparation and test standards.
Once you’ve successfully completed your 10 weeks at our dedicated Derby Training School, you will gain an IRTEC L2 Certification (Heavy Vehicle Service Maintenance Technician) and a full time, permanent position at our Leicester Depot.
By the end of the programme, you’ll be working safely and unsupervised, helping Arriva hit our pre-set vehicle standards and guidelines. Constant training and learning opportunities will be provided as you grow your career within our Depots.

Once qualified as a PSV Mechanic, the role will involve:
- Servicing, maintenance and repairs to Arriva and DVSA standards
- Continuous improvement of vehicle reliability
- MOT preparation, planned preventative maintenance campaigns and quality checks
- Vehicle fault diagnosis and ensuring reliability and maintenance is kept to Arriva Standards (Higher than DVSA)
To join our Training Programme, you will need:
- Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in light vehicle maintenance
- Practical, hands-on experience working with Light Vehicles/HGV
- A full UK driving licence
- Ability to be passed fit for a PCV pre-employment medical
- An interest in learning new skills!
