Our Campus Support Officers work 12 hour day shifts which are 7.00am to 7.00pm on a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern. Due to the shift patterns and the need to ensure 24/7 cover at each campus and outer sites, it is not possible for this post to be a job share opportunity.
Our Campus Support Officer salary at the bottom of the C grade scale equates to:
C10 basic salary: £21,761
Contractual overtime: £2,770
Weekend working allowance: £3,520
Plus 2 hours TOIL per week
The salary and allowances outlined above are for 40 hours per week however the post is an average of 42 hours per week, therefore this post attracts 2 hours time off in lieu (TOIL) per week which is pre-programmed into the rota.
UWE Bristol operates across 3 main campuses, Frenchay, Glenside and City Camus and you will be expected to work at any of these sites. You will also get to support UWE Open Days and Welcome Week.
The role includes the following duties:
- To provide friendly, courteous, efficient and effective front-line assistance to students, staff and visitors, upholding high standards of customer service and being an ambassador for the University.
- To respond appropriately / provide rapid response on foot or by vehicle to University security and emergency situations, including first aid response, and calls requesting assistance of the Emergency Services.
- Deal with potentially challenging or distressing situations and make appropriate decisions in line with University policies and procedures. Be impartial, objective and professional at all times and remain polite and courteous.
- To assist with the implementation of all University emergency procedures and liaison with the emergency services, including carrying out searches of University premises, vehicles, staff or students as dictated by operational circumstances.
- To deal with intruders/unauthorised persons/disorders, where necessary escorting them from University premises and escalating in line with documented procedures
- Respond to and operate University security technology, e.g. CCTV, access control, intruder detection, panic alarms etc.
- Carry out Control Room duties in a professional manner and in line with relevant codes of practice.
- To play an active role in special events within the University such as Open Days, official visits, award ceremonies and conferences as directed.
You have a good standard of general education, or can demonstrate experience of security in a similar relevant role in a large organisation; an SIA license or able to obtain the SIA license; and be First Aid at Work trained or willing to be trained.
You’ll have experience of working in a customer focused environment; have the ability to respond calmly, proportionately and professionally to serious incidents; and to be able to effectively handle conflict.
We need you to be flexible to adjust shifts with reasonable notice to attend training etc.; be DBS checked; be able to work for sustained periods of effort in all weathers; and hold a current full driving licence and required to drive University vehicles.
