Japanese-speaking Camp Counsellor (Summer Contract Position)

Since 1979, CISS has been a lead provider of Canadian summer camp programmes for international students. Our mission is to provide meaningful learning experiences across Canada for international students, local families, and our own team members in their lifelong journeys of learning.
We are currently looking for enthusiastic and hard-working individuals to fill counsellor positions for our two downtown ESL Summer Programmes. This is a summer residential position in which candidates will be responsible for the safe and engaging oversight of our camp activities and excursions.

Job Overview:
Counsellors play an important role at our programme. Their most important duty is to ensure our students are safe and that they feel welcome and cared for. They encourage students to practice their English, help to support students, and act as a positive role model.
Counsellors are responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing on-site afternoon and evening activities that are inspiring, inclusive, relevant, and fun! They lead and supervise student groups during any excursions off-campus in a safe, engaging, and responsible manner.
An average workday varies based on the needs of the camp. An average work week consists of 6 days-1 day off per week, operating on a rotating schedule
Key Responsibilities:
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Attend to students’ emotional and physical well-being by offering a safe and welcoming environment.
- Encourage students to speak English at all times.
- Encourage active student participation in activities and excursions.
- Model positive behaviour.
- Work with other team members to organize and implement activities and excursions per the schedule.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings.
- Assist to supervise students during meals.
- Perform night duty as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a residential camp setting.
- Experience working with teens ages 11-18 years.
- Valid First-Aid and CPR.
- Hold a valid drivers’ license and are comfortable driving.
- Familiar with Vancouver and surrounding areas.
Essential Qualifications:
- Must be fluent in Japanese.
- Excellent English ability also required.
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- Able to live on-site during the summer.
- Eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be able to provide VSC or CRC.
