Job overview
The role of the Nursing Associate is to work with the Registered CAMHS Learning Disability Nurses and other members of the multi-professional team, providing and monitoring care and contributing to the ongoing assessment, as agreed with supervising clinician(s) and in line with the service pathways. They will monitor the condition and health needs of Children with a Learning Disability on a continual basis in partnership with the multi professional team.
Main duties of the job
This role will support the Community CAMHS Learning Disability Nursing team with delivering the Care and Treatment for young people on caseload.
Participate in assessments for young people with a learning disability who also present with complex mental ill health. As part of this role you will all be expected to work with families and carers in the environment which is most appropriate for the young person.
To support the ongoing monitoring and a young person’s mental state medication and attend clinic reviews working alongside other professional groups within the CAMHS LD team. You will participate in the assessment, treatment and review of a defined caseload, working alongside other clinicians to deliver the best outcomes for children and young people who have a learning Disability but who also present with complex mental health needs.
Support the team by providing supervision, teaching and coaching. To review patients on the case load and adjust care plans alongside the Multi Disciplinary Team.
To liaise with other agencies involved in the care and treatment of the young person.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- foundation degree
- NMC Registration
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with children/young people and their families
- Qualification or experience of the needs of young people with a learning disability/Neuro developmental condition
- Previous experience working within a Community Team
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to organise and prioritise own delegated workload; recognising where elements of care can safely be delegated to other colleagues, carers and family members
- Ability to communicate effectively (written, digital, verbal and non-verbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with children and young people with complex mental health needs
- Ability to work as part of a team and understand the importance of team working
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within The Code
- Understanding of Safeguarding procedures
- Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans
Desirable criteria
- Ability to identify risk which includes Safeguarding risks
- Evidence of understanding child and adolescent development and the impact of adverse childhood experiences
