Cambridge Academic Summer Camp Course Director

Location: Cambridge, onsite accommodation provided for the duration of the camp

Duration: 9 July - 5 August

Salary: £800/week (9-10 hours per day + one full day off per week + one on-call night shift every 5 days)

Main Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for overseeing the smooth running of our Cambridge Academic Summer Camp and acting as a senior member of staff to protect the safety, welfare and wellbeing of students and staff

Prior to the camp

  • Familiarise yourself with the camp timetables and responsibilities of all the staff members at the camp
  • Attend an online safeguarding training course

During the camp

  • Ensure all staff members are carrying out their duties correctly
  • With the Safeguarding Officer, ensure the wellbeing and safety of all students and assist with any safeguarding issues that may occur
  • With the Academic Director, ensure that the academic timetable and room allocations are correctly implemented and respond to any last minute changes if necessary
  • Act as a point of contact between the UK Schooling team, students, the venue and parents
  • Respond to any student concerns regarding, accommodation, food, facilities or staff members
  • With the Academic Director, respond to any student behavioural issues
  • Respond to any staff beahvioural issues or complaints and report any misconduct immediately to Linda Man; organise and attend the disciplinary meeting
  • Respond to ay medical emergencies with the First Aider on duty (if this is not yourself) and by acting appropriately
  • Coordinate with the Activity Leaders to organise and ensure the smooth running of activities and social events
  • Liaise with the Academic Director to organise and ensure the smooth running of the academic skills workshops and guest lectures
  • The Course Director is a position as a senior member of staff. Accordingly, you will be expected to stay onsite for the duration of the camp and work with the other two senior members of staff to ensure student wellbeing and safety. This will involve being on call during nights to resolve any student problems that occur between the end of timetabled activities on one day and the beginning of timetabled activities on the next. In addition to your overall responsibilities, you will be expected to work with the Course Director, Safeguarding Officer and UK Schooling team to ensure that:
  • The wellbeing and welfare of students is protected
  • Health and safety precautions, rules and regulations are adhered to and risk assessments followed
  • Medical emergencies are responded to appropriately
  • Incidences of student or staff misconduct are dealt with immediately and appropriately

Requirements

  • Available to be onsite between 7 July and 6 August
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline. An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in education is desirable.
  • Previous experience in organising a group of young people
  • Extensive knowledge of the UK Higher Education System
  • Leadership skills, ability to support and training others
  • Fantastic organisational skills
  • Great initiative and communication skills and ability to be proactive and flexible when responding to situations
  • DBS check
  • First aid training or willing to carry out first aid training
