The MMI is a community hub in the heart of St. Agnes run by a small team of staff and volunteers. It is a registered not for profit charity and is used by local residents of all ages for a wide range of social activitiesincluding; yoga, Pilates, dance classes, art groups, writing groups, children’s and adult music and singing groups, photographic club and community film nights.
At the MMI Café we are a small but friendly team. We work hard, treat each other with respect and have fun in the process. We are proud of the food and drink we serve and equally proud of the relationship we have with our customers.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Café Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for customer service and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
At the moment we are looking for a team of staff to work part time / full time Monday to Friday 9-3 and Saturday 10-2. More hours may be available later in the summer. We pay the real Living Wage of £10.50 per hour.
Ideally candidates will:
- Be over 18
- Have Barista training (preferred but not required)
- Have basic cooking skills (necessity)
- Understand that customer service comes from the heart, from a genuine interest in other people
- Be prepared to pitch in with all aspects of cafe life from making coffee to prepping food to emptying the bins
- Be able to balance the need for speed with the need for quality
- Understand basic food hygiene and maintain a safe environment for customers and each other
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Providing excellent customer service in the Café
- Comply with all Food Safety, Health & Safety At Work and licensing legislation including ensuring relevant training /
- qualifications are held and up to date
- Work as part of a professional team
- Understand basic food hygiene and the additional need to keep customers and each other COVID safe
- Store and label food correctly. Adhere to food safety rules
- Record any food safety concerns in the food safety diary and follow up as necessary
- Ensure the Café is kept clean and tidy and be confident with how to use the Café cleaning products
- Use appropriate PPE equipment
- Liaise regularly with the Café Manager to ensure good communication and to ensure decisions are approved
- Leave the work area clean and tidy after your shift
- Attend staff meetings as requested by the Café Manager
- Wear appropriate clothing/uniform
- Follow assigned duties requested by your Manager
- Following other duties which may occasionally be deemed necessary by your Manager & the MMI
Food Safety Hygiene
- Ideally Food Safety Hygiene Level 2 Certificate to be held, training can be provided if not
Health & Safety
- Comply to all Health &; Safety At Work Legislation
- Complying to the MMI’s Policies and Procedures Manual
Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 16-20 per week
