We have an exciting opportunity to join the Sainsbury's Trading team as a Buyer within the Health & Beauty category, in our Grocery division. You’ll report into the Senior Buyer, who will guide you to develop your buying and selling strategies, support you in negotiations with key suppliers, and provide effective coaching to develop your skills and achieve outstanding results. It’s a fast-paced retail environment where you will be able to thrive working with a large FMCG supplier base and a variety of cross functional teams including senior stakeholders.
This Buyer role requires you to lead, optimise and execute the buying and selling strategies for Wash & Bath and as a result to sustainably grow your sales, market share and profit.
As a Buyer you’ll:
- Analysing customer, market and product data, as well as key industry insights for your area
Buying Strategy: Ensuring we have the right suppliers for each product through competitive tender processes, negotiation and analyse the end-to-end supply chains for your products; drive efficiency and save cost.
Selling strategy: Building your price and promotional plans and agreeing funding with your suppliers
Deliver range reviews that improve our master assortment ensuring we offer great value to our customers
Identifying key trends in the market and working with our product developers to create new and exciting products that capitalise on these trends
Reporting on performance at weekly and periodic sales meetings
Presenting to senior stakeholders in the business to gain support for key decisions or strategic projects
Your development will be supported by on and off the job training, and high-performing candidates could expect to progress to a senior buying role within the business after 1-2 years
Our Health and Beauty team would love to see:
- Buying experience essential (Fresh/Grocery background)
- Demonstrable experience in strong negotiations
- A great team player and enthusiasm for working in a high performing team
- Clear and effective communication skills
- Analytical thinking and ability to turn complex information into clear opportunities and decisions
- Ability to lead projects and teams to deliver excellent results
- Problem solving under pressure and working at pace
