At Peterborough City Council we’re looking for a Buyer to join the Commercial and Procurement Team that. The aim of the team is to drive procurement transformation and efficiencies that deliver cashable savings and better outcomes for Council and Communities.
You’ll be responsible for undertaking tactical purchase requirements to support Category Management Strategies/Initiatives, this will be across areas as diverse as Highways, Social Care to Waste and Office Supplies.
Working in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders and with team colleagues, you’ll manage e-procurement systems. This will involve you managing the e-procurement delivery, capturing and interpreting management information, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring that key performance indicators are being met.
The role offers long term potential for advancement, and you’ll be supported with ongoing development and training. You’ll also be working with a team that has an agile working ethos and who are all greatly committed to delivering a high-quality service and getting results.
The role complies with the Council’s hybrid working practices. So you will be based at Sand Martin House, Peterborough for 2 days per week and work from home for the remainder.
What you need to do the job;
We are looking for someone who has some procurement experience ideally within public sector procurement. Ideally you will be working towards your CIPS qualification and will have a good level of tactical (operational) buying experience. You should also have analytical skills, be able to work with data to present information to stakeholders and peers for example analysing the cost breakdown of goods and services.
Naturally confident, you will be able to negotiate successfully with all stakeholders and have the gravitas to build solid relationships to leverage supplier capability. It is important that you can get the best out of practices and processes and are not afraid to challenge the status quo.
