The role
As Buyer, you will have a role that is out of the ordinary. You will be responsible for tactical sourcing activity and the placement of Purchase Orders (PO’s) to enable and deliver requirements relating to military vehicle and MRO spares in support of operational deliverables.
Day to day, you will procure materials and manage order prices and quantities, respond to changes in demand and analyse reports and supporting the supply chain departments to ensure excellence in the overall performance of the operations.
- Responsible for managing the Purchasing workbench and ensuring PO placement meets contract timelines and strategies
- Generation and management of Requests for Quotations (RFQ’s) to source emergent demand requirements
- Reporting on Purchase Orders activity, issues / opportunities identified and supplier performance within Procurement, Babcock and the Customer, as appropriate
- Maintenance of Purchasing documents and records, both hard-copy and electronic
- Support supplier engagement on dispute resolution.
- Dependent on priority, capacity and surge activity across the function, be prepared to temporarily deploy to other areas within the Procurement function to undertake activity commensurate with level, capability and functional skill
Essential experience of the Buyer,
- Experience of ERP systems, preferably SAP or equivalent
- Proven experience in a commercial procurement environment
- Experience of detailed quotation analysis and developing / challenging pricing with suppliers where appropriate
- Preferred experience within Defence, Aerospace, Rail, etc – heavily regulated environments
This role is 37 hours per week. Hybrid working arrangement of x3 days a week on-site at agreed hub, with the remaining days to be completed from home. Also, this role requires occasional travel to Europe.
Qualifications for the Buyer,
- Relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Membership of a relevant professional body is preferred, e.g. the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply at a Level 4 or above, or working towards
The successful candidate must be able to achieve BPSS and SC security clearance level for this role.
