Butcher Apprentice
We’re currently looking for a Butcher Apprentice to join our vibrant and bustling Food Halls. The Butcher Apprentice will be working alongside our highly experienced meat and poultry team whilst working towards obtaining a Level 2 Butcher Apprenticeship qualification. Throughout the apprenticeship the Butcher Apprentice will be coached on the knowledge, skills and behaviours necessary to become a product expert, whilst offering exceptional service to delight our customers.
This apprenticeship is an excellent opportunity to learn and develop skills to start your career within one of the most well-known luxury department stores in the world, gain a recognised qualification and earn a salary whilst you’re doing it.
About the role
Spread across 18 months, you’ll learn what it takes to be a Butcher within a fast-paced retail environment. You will learn to recognise different products, cuts of meat and understand the differences between these – ultimately being able to break down whole carcasses where required. You’ll gain a solid knowledge of product rotation and date checking, as well as understanding what an attractive counter display looks like and developing your own style with this.
The role will enable you to develop excellent customer service skills and understand what it truly means to make anything possible for our customers.
To help you gain your qualification, you will attend taught sessions at Bishop Burton College. These will take place in block weeks and will require travelling and staying at the College for this period of time (all reasonable associated costs will be covered by Harrods). You’ll have your own tutor and will be coached and supported, as well as having a mentor to assist with applying new learning to the day-to-day role. Once you’ve completed the apprenticeship, you’ll be ready to develop your career with us.
About you
You may or may not have experience within a meat or poultry environment; we will invest in your development to teach you the knowledge and give you the tools needed to succeed, but you will be passionate about the products, Harrods, and providing world class customer service – going above and beyond to create moments of delight.
You’ll also –
- Have great organisational skills to keep the shop floor running smoothly
- Have the ability to remain calm, and measured even when under pressure
- You’ll be resilient, believing that anything is possible and can overcome challenges in front of you
- Be collaborative in your nature, and thrive as part of a team
- Enjoy the thrill of achieving sales targets
- Be able to work autonomously where required – the apprenticeship requires
you to complete various coursework and undertake your own
learning
Our promise to you
Help us make the impossible possible for our customers and we’ll do something remarkable for you. As well as offering a friendly environment to inspire your best work, we provide abundant opportunities and support to build an exceptional career across the varied specialisms of our business.
