Job summary
This role will provide you with an interesting and supported introduction to Project Management and Business Management. As a Business Support Officer, you will be responsible for a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of the COVID Genomics Programme objectives.
You will help to support the smooth running of the PMO by assisting the operation of project management processes, and the co-ordination of business management actions and activities on behalf of the PMO team.
You will be expected to support the Senior Business Operations Manager with activities such as communication across the business, maintenance of central project records and production of regular management reports.

Specific duties of the role may vary depending on the site and teams/functions.
- Leadership & Delivery – Lead on business change activity and work with the project to support delivery of the Business Case benefits and outcomes. Champion the use of best practice and provide expert advice for team members and project community.
- Business Case – Support the Senior Business Operations Manager in preparing and updating the change management elements of the Business Case.

Change Products – Provide input into creation of required Business Change products. Supports the engagement of relevant business/end users during this process.
Planning – Support the Project Manager in preparing and updating the plan. - Business Readiness – Support the Senior Business Operations Manager and business / end users in identifying, qualifying, and updating business readiness criteria before implementation.
- Benefits Management – Support the Benefits Manager, Project Manager and stakeholders to identify and leverage benefits. Considers Benefits Management in all Business Change activities.
- Change Communication – Support Stakeholder Manager and Business Operations Managers to create and maintain communications plan in relation to Business Change Management.
- Monitoring and reporting – Support in maintaining project controls and in producing project reports.
- Stakeholder Management – Identify stakeholders, ensures their inclusion in stakeholder engagement plan. Point of contact for nominated stakeholders.

Qualifications
Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience at a similar level.
Project Management Qualification (e.g. Prince2 Practitioner)
Knowledge and experience
Experience as defined by type/level (not length)
Communicates effectively with project stakeholders and partners
Experience of maintaining good stakeholder relations and of working with others to achieve common goals
Experience of working in a changing environment
Working knowledge of the NHS and local and national government structures
Working knowledge of basic project management tools and techniques
Experience of managing projects
Knowledge and understanding of public health issues or previous experience in a similar role
Skills and capabilities
Ability to manage own workload, working within a multi-disciplinary team
Ability to negotiate, influence and engage with staff and stakeholders at all levels
Ability to lead as a specialist in area of expertise and provide guidance

Location
UKHSA offers hybrid working for its employees – This role will be based at one of our UKHSA offices/locations (Leeds, Manchester, Totnes, London, Horsham, Cardiff, Bristol, Nottingham, Harlow, Liverpool, Fareham, Gloucester, Newcastle and Birmingham) with opportunities for an element of working from home.
You will be asked to express a location preference during the application process.
The balance between home and workplace working is to be agreed with the line manager, determined primarily by business need and in line with departmental policy.
Some occasional business travel will be required to Colindale (61 Colindale Avenue, London NW9 5EQ). Business travel between base location and any other UKHSA offices/locations will be covered under the UKHSA Travel and Expenses policy.
The core working hours for this role are 09:00am to 5:00pm. There will be some flexibility to these hours.
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas. Relocation expenses are not available.

Appointment
This is a Fixed Term Appointment with a scheduled end date of 31 March 2024 irrespective of the post holder’s start date. There is a possibility of an extension.
