The purpose of the Business Resilience Manager is to own and assure the successful crisis management of LNER in times of disruption, ensuring minimal impact for our LNER customers and colleagues so we continue to be the most loved, progressive, and responsible way to travel even in case of disruption.
You'll be the custodian for all things business continuity, ensuring each directorate is engaging with, and supporting the resilience plan, providing assurance to the executive on the status of resilience.
The role will drive a cross directorate, matrix team approach for delivering collaboration and coherence across business contingency arrangements requiring influencing and relationship building.
The post will also have responsibility for providing competent operational advice to the Operations Standards Manager in relation to Azuma dispatch and train management.
So; what would you be doing?
- Developing the strategy for business resilience & contingency arrangements and ensure that there is executive buy in for the approach.
- Provide strategic coordination, overview, and accountability for the business approach to delivering organisational and operational resilience, fire safety, security, and emergency planning.
- Ensuring that the strategy is fully safety validated, cost effective and risk assessed to ensure that the approach is both robust and fit for purpose.
- Building on the business continuity management system through continuous improvement review, ensuring ISO22301 compliance
- Ensure that there is a clear and accountability focused implementation plan to deliver the strategy and manage progress against this plan, ensuring the ability of the business to respond to emerging and ongoing risks and industry changes.
- Ensure that there is a consistent engagement and awareness plan across all directorates within the organisation and management community to secure commitment to this business critical agenda and strategy.
- Maintain oversight on LNER's emergency exercise program, ensuring plans are tested often and rigorously and look for ways to enhance the way we plan for crisis
- Lead and coordinate the reconciliation and interdependencies of all operational, safety and people related policies which have an impact on the delivery of the contingency strategy.
- Manage and develop a close working relationship between Ops Planning (diagramming), resource management and rostering to deliver a robust framework and structure for contingency management across the business.
- Work cross functionally with both Customer Experience and the People team to identify training gaps, help coordinate and ensure delivery of the training requirements for all frontline readiness roles.
- To work closely with Ops, CX, Engineering, Marketing, Commercial and rostering teams to ensure contingency management is embedded in the ‘way we do business' at LNER.
- Industry: To ensure that LNER is aligned with the wider group approach to contingency management and that cross deployment of resource planning is kept up to date and in readiness for potential group wide disruption or dispute.
- To ensure that the implementation plan for contingency arrangements incorporates and negotiates a thorough and robust provision of training for all contingency staff.
- To work with the talent team and CX to ensure that all opportunities to deliver relevant training are harnessed and that release arrangements for staff to undertake key learning is managed as appropriate.
- To work with the talent team to ensure there is a robust recruitment process for all future contingent managers with recruitment, rostering and Occupational Health.
- Ensure that the on-going competency management framework can be delivered efficiently and effectively with full accountability for overseeing and enabling the competency of contingent managers going forward.

What do we need you to have?
- Competent in the role of train manager and able to work towards dual competence to also be train dispatcher competent.
- Competence in the assessment of safety critical roles.
- Experience of working within risk management with the ability to conduct risk assessments.
- Effective people management skills with a proven track record for developing behavioural and competence.
- An ability to effectively negotiate and influence strategic initiatives with internal and external stakeholders including ORR and Trade Unions.
- Aptitude for strategic planning and coordination .
- Proven track record of enhancing processes and tasks which increase efficiency.
- Highly computer literate with an ability to translate data into meaningful management information.
- Experience of developing and implementing sophisticated and successful business cases.
- Holds or working towards a recognised qualification in the field of business resilience, emergency planning or risk management
