Your role at a glance

The Finance Business Partner - Central Services will be responsible for the overall expense management and reporting of the Risk, HR, Finance, MD & other central services areas. With support from the Expense Accountant, the team will ensure the accurate accounting of Central expenses, provide business partnering support to operational functions and offer a wider central accounting service to Retail Finance.

What you'll be doing

  • You will manage the production, analysis and provision of supporting business commentary on current and projected direct expenses and FTE positions, highlighting trends and risks against Forecast and Budget.
  • You will take responsibility for challenging the business on expense matters, and ensure that appropriate controls are in place to eliminate excessive, wasteful or inappropriate spending by the business.
  • You will support the business areas in arriving at accurate and fair allocation of all relevant cost centres and communicating these to the wider Retail Finance product areas..
  • You will produce analyses/trend reports and Management Information packs for senior management meetings to aid decision-making and strategic planning in order to achieve business objectives. Produce regular MI, reports and comprehensive financial analysis for relevant business areas, evaluating key metrics supporting senior management, which will assist the business in achieving its performance targets.
  • You will work independently and take the initiative to develop relationships and work with managers and directors to help them understand financial perspectives, enabling the business to adopt a proactive and innovative role in financial and commercial matters, establishing a firm base for the successful future development and growth.
  • You will build trusting relationships that enable both the inclusion of Finance in key expense related decision making but equally give the experience to challenge effectively.
  • You will take proactive ownership of the relevant BU expense forecast. ensuring that expense opportunities and threats are identified promptly Play a leading role in the annual expense plan and provide input to the medium and long-term financial strategy.
  • You will develop financial based scenario / forecast planning models that enable understanding of the impact on all financial metrics. Challenge the Senior Management to meet the expectations set.
  • You will manage the overall Business Units forecast and budgets directly with the Head of Central Expenses ensuring the Business Units plans and assumptions are fully understood and presented to the Retail product areas
  • You will Ensure that the appropriate Finance MI, processes and systems are in place to ensure the team meet their financial control objectives
  • You will provide leadership and support to the Expense Accountant. Identify development plans and opportunities to extend knowledgeability and experience, Clearly organise and communicate expectations, deliveries and deadlines.
  • You will manage, motivate and develop employees at all levels, in a manner that is consistent with the Company’s policies and procedures the including Partnership Agreement, to maximise the performance of the area.

What we're looking for

  • Qualified Accountant
  • Good knowledge of the Financial Services industry and the performance metrics used within the industry.
  • Understanding of cost allocation and profit measurement (Value Added Management), planning and forecasting cycle, financial approval procedures/processes and monthly expenditure reporting and analysis processes, and alternative cross-charging methodologies and behavioural implications.
  • Advanced knowledge in the use of spreadsheets, databases and analysis tools.
  • Ability to design, develop and maintain complex financial models.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationship skills with individuals at all levels of an organisation.
  • Significant cost management and business partner experience
  • Experience of presenting to senior stakeholders on accounting results and changes.
  • Able to present and communicate complex financial data to non-accountants
  • Ability to build relationships and interact effectively at all levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage and develop client/customer relationships and provide excellent customer service.
  • Systems knowledge useful - Office software packages: such as MS Office, MS Excel, Forecasting software: Anaplan, MI Support: PowerBI
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a geographically widespread team who are primarily remote.
