McMullen's are a family brewer and pub operator based in Hertford, and we are looking to expand our Tenancy team with the addition of a Business Development Manager.
We have a diverse range of pubs across the southeast with some truly iconic locations. Our head office is based at our Brewery in Hertford where we have continuously brewed our famous Macs beer since 1827.
Job Summary
To recruit, support, develop and retain successful pub partners in the company’s tenanted estate to maximise sustainable financial return whilst growing overall volume.
About the role
This is a Field Based Role in and around Hertfordshire region. You will be supporting and developing circa 20-25 pubs utilising relationship and business building skills to drive sustainable profitable businesses across the estate. The role is at the forefront with our pub partners, ensuring we work collaboratively moving each pub forward in the right way creating a brilliant retail experience for the consumer. Every pub is different, so you will need to adapt to create a unique business plan for each site; which involves the recruitment of new tenants, reviewing commercial terms and delivering engaging brand/marketing plans. With a strong understanding of retail or hospitality, you will need to use your experience to implement the best retail/operational solutions for every pub.
Main Duties
Responsible for the recruitment and retention of competent tenants
Build lasting relationships and develop the business partner’s skillset to drive a better retail experience for the consumer through training, marketing, and promotion advice
Work closely with line manager to create a strong area plan, site by site for future growth
Manage each site’s McMullen P+Ls and use financial levers to drive more profit that is sustainable for both business partner and landlord
Ensure our business partners comply with their contractual obligations regarding payment and maintenance
Create site P+Ls to assist and motivate our business partners mindset for growth
Regularly visit business partners for documented 1:1s, during varied trading times including peak times
Identify site investment opportunities to grow overall turnover, volume and profit, working with the business partner to deliver an efficient ROI
Formally inspect and audit each site annually, enforcing any property repairs, health/safety and maintenance required
Work collaboratively with the estates, recruitment, and marketing departments
Who we are looking for
An experienced, passionate pub sector applicant with a strategic, analytical, influential mindset, focused on forming great relationships to drive growth. Must have the ability to be adaptable to an ever-changing workspace with a strong problem-solving attitude whilst working collaboratively with the wider team. Strong knowledge of the tenanted pub world, Tenanted Pub Code of Practice and a wide network of appropriate contacts would be advantageous.
Applicant must have a valid driving licence for the job to be carried out competently
