Your role at a glance

Would you like to be a Business Development Manager, offering market leading propositions, in a FTSE 100 business?

If you are an expert relationship manager with Group Protection experience (will consider strong Individual Protection or DC Pension) then this is a great opportunity. Due to exciting growth across the business, our Group Protection Distribution team are looking for a Business Development Manager to join our high performing Key Accounts team.

In this exciting role, you’ll deliver sales growth and sustainability targets for Group Protection business to achieve Group Protection growth plan. You’ll be tasked to achieve this through expert relationship management and sales engagement with an allocated portfolio to drive sustainable APE at required profitably level in line with Group Protection growth.

This is a unique role that is full of opportunity. You’ll be given the autonomy to take ownership of your account relationship, and how to choose to operate within them, whilst also still working in a collaborative and supportive team environment. You’ll be networking internally and externally across variety of levels, giving you great exposure and opportunity to develop.

What you'll be doing
  • Develop and maintain excellent one-to-one business relationships with all intermediary contacts, and key clients, ensuring a contact management strategy is designed, regularly reviewed, and actively managed.
  • Actively manage the account to ensure targets for new business and retention are met, both in terms of premium income and profit levels.
  • Demonstrate a high level of expertise on Legal & General’s products and overall proposition, ensuring this knowledge is shared with all key customers with the result that our proposition is valued and market share increased.
  • Be confident and effective at delivering presentations both on a one-to-one basis and in pitch scenarios. Actively seek out opportunities to deliver key messages to a wide range of customers.
  • Work closely with internal colleagues, to ensure the business plans are shared and service expectations are agreed and regularly monitored.
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback of competitor pricing, highlighting conclusions and recommendations at regular intervals to the Group Protection Management Team.
  • Encourage customers to question the advice and service that has been provided to enable them to understand how their policy operates, including how to change product, switch provider, submit a claim or make a complaint.
  • Ensure that Legislative, Revenue, Disclosure and Regulatory requirements which apply to Group Protection are adhered to and that L&G’s standards and policies are upheld.
What we're looking for

To be successful in this role you’ll need to be articulate and adaptable with your communication, as you work to build long lasting relationships with your key account. Whilst you’ll be working with some of the best products in the market, your resilience and drive are key behaviours that you’ll need to demonstrate as you’ll be operating within a competitive market.

Here’s some of the key experience and skills that we’d love to see:

  • Excellent knowledge of financial services products, ideally Group Protection (Or Individual)
  • Relevant sales/account management experience in financial services
  • Demonstrable levels of high achievement drive (evidence of exceeding targets/objectives)
  • Evidence of ability to plan/manage own time effectively.
