Business Development Executive

Business Development Executive London, England

Penguin Books Limited
Full Time London, England 29500 - 36000 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Our International Sales team are looking for a Business Development Executive to support the growth of sales across various territories, with a particular focus on promoting education & customised books from across the Penguin Random House list.

This role will be perfectly suited to someone with a curious mindset, great communication skills and exposure to working on partnerships – looking for their next challenge and a chance to work in a creative and supportive team.

The role

Your role will be varied and, with support from senior Business Development colleagues, you will become embedded in the wider International Sales team as a crucial point of contact for key educational accounts and our publishing colleagues. You will also work closely with our Custom Product colleagues to deliver bespoke publishing projects for key territories.

A normal day in this role might see you pitching to a key customer, undertaking a marketing or research project, outlining a custom project brief, or processing orders and analysing sales.

As you grow within the role and team, you will develop excellent relationships with specific educational accounts in focus markets and build on your existing commercial instincts. You’ll also get the chance to work on custom publishing projects, including brand new products featuring some of our most popular Children’s brands, so you’ll be able to share your creative ideas.

We are a supportive team so you do not need to have existing publishing experience, though a genuine interest in sales and business development for international markets and education is important.

What we’re looking for

  • An active curiosity in seeking out new business and spotting opportunities.
  • Strong personal organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work autonomously and use initiative.
  • An impactful and considerate communicator, able to adapt your style for different audiences – internally, externally and with international partners.
  • As you develop relationships across key education markets and custom accounts you will regularly share product information with our wider sales team, so evident analytical ability is important.
  • Having been part of a team or projects with commercial relationships – this could be from licensing, sales, brand partnerships, custom publishing or other creative industries or consumer businesses.
  • An interest in dealing with key customers or professionals in education, as you’ll be responsible for assisting our colleagues with creating and implementing education sales and marketing strategies.

We are very much looking forward to receiving your application, if this role sounds like the next career step for you.

Please apply with your CV and cover letter by Sunday 5th March. As part of your cover letter, please tell us one reason why you’re interested in this position.

This role will be primarily based in our London offices near Pimlico, although you will also have the opportunity to work in our Embassy Gardens office and from home. We’ll be happy to discuss working pattern over the interview process, but there is an expectation that you will work from the office at least twice per week.

Salary: from £29,500 to £36,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.

Our employees are the heart of our business. We have a range of benefits to reflect our commitment to our employees, some of which are:

  • 27 days paid holiday entitlement in year one (plus bank holidays), increasing a day each year up to 30 days
  • Medical cover
  • Life assurance
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Summer working hours (role dependent)
  • Volunteering policy and charity matching
  • Employee Assistance programme
  • Mentoring programme
  • Extended gender neutral parental leave
  • Access to books and eBooks across Penguin Random House UK
  • Each site has trained mental health first aiders
  • We plant a tree for every new employee to our business

Our creativity is inspired by different perspectives, so we want our culture to be one of belonging, where everyone feels welcome and where differences are celebrated.

As a Disability Confident Committed organisation, we're part of the offer an interview scheme. This is where disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the role can opt in to get to the next recruitment stage. If you need adjustments during the application process, we encourage you to get in touch with us at http://[email protected]. Remember, you only need to share what you are comfortable to for us to support your adjustment request.
