Focus of the Role
The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) advises reforming political leaders and governments on strategy, policy and delivery, with technology as an enabler across all three functions. In so doing we make a significant and positive impact for citizens around the world.
This year we are hosting an exciting summer Internship programme for ten weeks within our Internal Operations Team; a growing division of now over 60 colleagues, in UK, Kenya, Indonesia, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Singapore. This will be a rotational programme commencing late June 2023 for exceptional candidates who are interested in understanding how an organisation operates, in enabling and supporting sustainable growth alongside providing guidance, security and people support.
The ten week internship will give successful candidates a unique experience within five different teams; People, Legal, Finance, Digital, Security & Resilience and Technical Operations. All of which make up Internal Operations. You will have the benefit of an innovative programme of work, during which you will help support our teams with specific projects to meet our growing project demands. This will provide you with a real outlook on the broad range of work each team covers, alongside working with our internal and external stakeholders.
Our vision is to be a professional and service focussed Division that creates a structure of good governance, within a flexible operating model in support of the Institute’s goals and allowing the Institute to deliver its work.
During the Internship Programme, you will help create impactful change, be mentored by colleagues and receive a holistic understanding of life at TBI. For those who enjoy our Internship Programme and are excited by the growth and impact of TBI, you will have a solid foundation from which to apply for a full-time position at the Institute: Whether our colleagues are at TBI for a few years, or a large share of their career as they grow and progress within the Institute, their experience positions them to have a huge global impact.
Please note that applicants must have the right to work in UK and be able to relocate to London at their own expense for the duration of the internship. The compensation for this role is extremely competitive – more details on application.
By applying to this position, you will be working within each of the five teams for a defined period. You do not need to have an avid interest in all aspects of Internal Operations (IO); however an overall interest is desired.
Key Responsibilities
Our Internship Programme will provide you with the opportunity to do some or all the following:
Develop research, analysis, written insights and other deliverables for teams and leadership across IO
Liaise with Project Teams and other departments across the Institute as necessary to support in the development of reports, presentations, and other relevant documents
Apply and learn from new and innovative approaches to supporting change and deliver impact
Look at different platforms and methods to hiring new talent within the Institute
Undertake research related to relevant legal topics and supporting on due diligence activities
Support the Facilities team plan and implement special projects and audits
Gain an understanding of organisational security risk management and crisis management processes
Conduct context analysis to help inform security planning where the Institute is operating with no permanent presence
Work as part of the Institute’s dedicated global travel team; supporting a global organisation in a fast paced and demanding critical central function
Gain an overview of finance, including management reporting, invoice processing, budgeting, statutory accounts preparation and global taxation
Understand how customer service and effective digitisation work together
Person Specification
We welcome applications from those finishing or who have completed an undergraduate degree or college course.
Good proficiency in MS Office programmes (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
A keen interest and understanding of our work as an Institute
Demonstrate the ability to prioritise against tight deadlines
Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
A collaborative and supportive team-player
Great interpersonal skills - able to establish good cross departmental working relationships
Customer service/experience focused - flexible and adaptable approach
Great time management skills
Must appreciate the demands of working within a growing business and remain solutions focused. This will at times involve taking on unfamiliar tasks and managing own workload
Enthusiastic, self-driven, ambitious and always seeking continuous improvement
Must be able to demonstrate discretion with sensitive information.
