IT Business Analyst – Trading and Optimization:

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced IT Business Analyst looking to expand their knowledge and work with the market leader in LNG Trading and Optimization, with one of the most diversified portfolios.


As a senior Business Analyst, you would lead the BA activities, working with technical teams and data scientists to shape and deliver portfolio optimization solution options for traders. You would actively manage the requirements through the end-to-end solution delivery lifecycle, from detailed design to implementation, testing and release, and ultimately the transition of expertise to the support teams. You will be a key SME bringing valuable optimization knowledge the project.


Where you fit in

You will work as part of a global team in the Information & Digital Technology (IDT) organization. You will join IT team in the UK (London) working as one team together with other Shell IT hubs globally (Bangalore, Houston, Netherlands).

You will support Shell LNG Marketing & Trading teams working in the D&A team delivering a major transformational program providing Data platform for Shell Energy

What’s the role?

This role requires an experience business analyst with deep knowledge on portfolio optimization solutions for traders. Your experience in optimizations of commodities especially crude & products or LNG will be extremely valuable. You will be working closely with traders and expected to deal with difficult conversation and understanding the trading lifecycle of bulk commodity (Crude / LNG).


Your role will vary depending on your project(s), typically you would perform the following:

  • Work closely with experienced data scientists, data modelers and technical leads to shape and deliver portfolio optimization solutions for traders

  • Act as product SME for the Trading Data & analytics team, establishing a role as trusted advisor

  • Responsible for the successful planning and delivery of the project(s) business analysis methods, tools, and technology

  • Ability to travel to business hubs (Singapore/ Dubai/ UK/ India) depending on business needs to meet with Business stakeholders

  • Responsible for assuring functional design, resolves technical and solution design issues collaboratively

  • Point of escalation for issues which adversely affect systems performance, design, or functionalities

  • Strong leadership, sound analytical skill and change management capabilities to work independently on transformation, improvement initiatives, liaising effectively with senior stakeholders and vendors on complex problems etc

What we need from you

We are keen to hear from the candidates with below skill set:

  • Significant experience in IT Business Analyst role

  • Experience of working with optimization models, ideally within the context of physical bulk commodity operations

  • Experience of delivery within a trading environment and working directly with traders

  • Experience working in fast- paced project delivery using AGILE methods, experience in creating user stories and Agile deliverables

  • Knowledge of Business Analysis techniques and tools with significant experience in project deliverables including the ability to:

  • Precisely capture business problems, value drivers, and functional/non-functional requirements

  • Translate business requirements into functionality and assess the risks, feasibility, opportunities, and business impacts of various solution options

  • Visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts

  • A delivery focus in terms of closing out tasks effectively in addition to realizing planned business benefits alongside users

  • Detailed knowledge of data management best practice
