The role

As a Lead Business Analyst, you will be involved in developing the Business Analysis function within BEIS. You will be accountable for the quality, coverage and management of business analysis across programmes and projects. You will also mentor other members of the team, ensuring they have the skills, knowledge, tools and support to provide quality business analysis.

You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of diverse and interesting projects which make a real difference to people’s lives, for example, the team are currently working on projects to provide financial help to households and businesses with their energy.

Skills and Experience

Essential criteria

You will have a consistent record as a Business Analyst.

You will have:

  • Experience as a Business Analyst where you have applied -business analysis techniques to identify, investigate and communicate complex problems and opportunities to a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Identified, documented and implemented business process improvement opportunities to enable activities to be carried out more efficiently, enhancing business outcomes.

  • Experience of requirements definition and management including prioritising and documenting user needs and requirements .

  • Experience of Agile working in a fast paced and evolving environment to enable rapid delivery.

  • Built and developed stakeholder relationships at all levels of an organisation with experience of championing and negotiating the best outcomes for users and the business.

  • Mentored other business analysts so they have the skills, knowledge and tools to work successfully.

Desirable criteria

The below are desired but not essential.

  • An understanding of enterprise and business architecture and how it connects with business analysis.

  • Used your business analysis and evaluation skills to direct the design execution and assessment of business process testing

Technical skills

To be assessed:

Business analysis - You can set the direction for business analysis within a programme of work, enterprise or wider sector. You can guide tactical decision making and influence the formulation of longer-term strategic plans in an evolving, complex and unpredictable environment. You can give colleagues the means and authority to make decisions about their approach to business analysis activities. You can ensure that the proposed solutions align with the organisational strategy and vision. (Skill level: expert).

Business process improvement - You can set the direction within a programme or enterprise to identify opportunities to perform business activities in alternative ways. You can lead the exploration of ways to improve process efficiency and enhance business outcomes. You can enable others to recognise the potential for change in potentially ambiguous and complex settings. You can oversee the implementation of proposed improvements. (Skill level: expert).

Requirements definition and management - You can direct the approach to requirements management. You can enable others to select and apply appropriate life cycle methods. You can influence the prioritisation of complex requirement sets, enabling long-term strategic decision making and short-term tactical fixes.
