Business Analyst – Inside IR35
Contract Term: 6 months (possible extension)
Contracting Authority: NDA
Location: Remote Working (required to travel to the office once per month – Cheshire)
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) is a non-departmental public body created through the Energy Act 2004.
We have 5 offices across the UK, in Cumbria, Dounreay, Harwell, Warrington and London. We have 17 sites including the first fleet of nuclear power stations, research centres, fuel-related facilities, and Sellafield, which has the largest radioactive inventory and the most complex facilities to decommission.
We are sponsored by the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and supported by Dounreay, Magnox, Nuclear Waste Services, Nuclear Transport Solutions and Sellafield. The Scottish government also has a governance role, working closely with BEIS to ensure its expectations are met.
Our role is strategic: we establish the overall approach, allocate budgets, set targets and monitor progress.
We do not have a hands-on role in cleaning up our facilities. Instead, we deliver our mission through others, primarily 12 businesses.
We are responsible for:
- decommissioning and cleaning up these nuclear facilities ensuring that all waste products, both radioactive and non-radioactive, are safely managed.
- implementing policy on the long-term management of nuclear waste.
- developing UK-wide strategy and plans for nuclear Low Level Waste (LLW).
- scrutinising the decommissioning plans of EDF Energy, who own the operating fleet of Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor (AGR) nuclear power stations.
Job Purpose:
Within the NDA Group the Finance function is developing and implementing a finance functional strategy which is being delivered across the Group through the Integrated Financial Framework (IFF) programme. As part of this framework the Finance and ICT teams have created a project to deliver a Single Enterprise NDA Data Environment (SENDE). The project is a keystone to the NDA’s enterprise digital strategy and will deliver a single data warehouse and reporting platform accessible to all business functions across the NDA estate.
The (SENDE) Business Analyst role for the NDA and will be responsible for ensuring that business requirements and processes are collected, documented, and approved by business owners before they are presented as business use cases to the SENDE and Power BI or Business Reporting Services design and development teams.
The Business Analyst will also be responsible for engaging and advising the business functions and Power BI Product owners. Working between the SENDE development teams and business Functions, the Business Analyst will also identify all security and user access requirements for each business case.
As a Business Analyst your main responsibilities would be:
- Shares and demonstrates the NDA values of, Respect, Openness, Collaboration, Performance, Inclusion and Creativity
- Effective leadership and development skills
- Analyses the structure of a business / function to determine how it operates and determine its objectives.
- Identifies any problems with the current business model.
- Collects and documents specific business use requirements for process, data, and reporting.
- Working with SENDE Data and Power BI designer developers in the design of potential solutions
- Prepares and delivers a report of findings to business product owners with comprehensive risk and impact assessment.
- Develops comprehensive end-to-end (E2E) test cases.
- Oversees the implementation of approved process improvements.
- Performs training sessions and workshops to guide relevant teams.
- Conducts periodic quality checks.
- Supports the SENDE Project and BRS Managers in all aspects relating to their work on SENDE and Power BI.
- Identifies and reports on the use and benefits realised to the NDA business sponsors.
- Understand and analyse user and business needs, ensuring outcomes are aligned with service vision and business strategy. Challenge constructively to achieve solutions that are fit for purpose.
- Facilitate collaboration and lead effective communication with all stakeholders to support design, build and delivery.
- Employ a range of tools and techniques to gather business and user requirements against the clear objectives articulated for the project.
- Determine the need and value of performing the activity based on the context.
- Evaluate requirements against the present state and the target state and identify opportunities to develop successful business requirements.
- Assist Business Improvement teams with identification of BAU enhancements and their solutions.
- Engage with policy and strategy to ensure business systems, workflows and processes contribute to the target operating model.
You’ll have:
- Experience in collecting and documenting business processes and requirements
- Experience in using Microsoft Power BI or designing Analytical dashboards and reports
- Experience in managing diverse groups of stakeholders.
- Leading business and technical design & development teams
- Experience of defining requirements for the management and utilisation of complex data products
- Experience of working within agile frameworks - ideally SAFe an advantage
- Identification and management of risk
- Creating business cases
- Experience in the use ofOffice 365 SharePoint / OneDrive
