We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Factual Entertainment & Events and Entertainment & Music Legal and Business Affairs team for 12 months as Business Affairs Assistant for Factual Entertainment.
Factual Entertainment and Events (“FEE”) is where we produce or have produced amongst many others super-brand Top Gear, Dragons Den, Countryfile, Antiques Roadshow, Morning Live, The One Show, Amazing Hotels, a Hey Duggee/Joe Wicks collaboration for Youtube, Inside The Duchy for ITV and The Great Home Transformation for Channel 4, and we also produce broadcasts of events such as royal weddings/funerals/jubilees/coronations, the Invictus Games, the Earthshot Prize and war memorial events such as Festival of Remembrance.
It’s in Bristol and Cardiff where FEE produces the likes of Countryfile, Gardeners’ World, DIY SOS, Fake or Fortune, Nigella, Antiques Roadshow, Bargain Hunt, RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and Unique Boutique (Channel 4), and the development teams are constantly pitching new programme ideas to various broadcasters.
Main Responsibilities
You will be working as part of a team that provides first class business affairs support to the Bristol and Cardiff Fact Ent production teams on the range of programmes that they produce. This will primarily involve:
- Providing excellent contract and rights administration, business support and team coordination;
- Using systems and processes efficiently and effectively;
- Providing ad hoc advice on a variety of matters such as copyright; and
- Maintaining strong, collaborative working relationships internally and external
Principal Responsibilities
- Contract and rights administration: To carry out all aspects of contract and rights administration effectively and efficiently. To research and identify holders of copyright, providing fee and clearance information as required, and issuing documentation. To distribute contracts, arranging contract signature, resolving payment queries, recording rights and contractual information into various databases, systems and shared drives;
- Business support and team coordination: To ensure all relevant BBC business processes (including contract management) are followed. To ensure effective coordination across and between CRBA and production, being the initial point of contact for business & legal affairs queries (mainly from production teams), dealing promptly with queries and/or fielding queries to the appropriate members of the team to ensure they are dealt with appropriately, accurately and efficiently. This will require the successful applicant to build, maintain and manage first-class relationships with relevant stakeholders both inside and outside of BBC Studios;
- Business systems: To produce contractual documentation using standard templates and ensure information on business systems (for example ACON) is current and maintained;
- Document management and record keeping: To maintain excellent document management and record keeping, ensuring data integrity, accuracy and timeliness. To process contractual payments efficiently;
- Research: To assist or undertake research projects;
- Deputising: To deputise and act up at Executive level as required.
Essential skills and experience:
- Good interpersonal skills and experience of developing good working relationships;
- Excellent IT skills with experience of databases and administration systems;
- Exemplary organisation, coordination and time management skills;
- Good attention to detail and the ability to examine and summarise complex data;
- An approach that encompasses inclusion, teamwork, collaboration, proactivity, flexibility, passion and professionalism;
- Supportive of team priorities and ready to help others;
- The ability to handle a busy workload and to prioritise and manage time calmly and effectively;
- An informed interest in and enthusiasm for Factual Entertainment content;
- Knowledge of production and deal-making would be advantageous but not essential.
