The Launch Group are currently hiring for Bus Drivers for Go North East at their many Depots in Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and County Durham.
Main Purpose of Job:
To drive Passenger Carrying Vehicles in a safe and skilled manner to the standard required by Go North East and the Ministry of Transport PCV Test.
To undertake the following duties as professionally and effectively as possible:-
Driver Responsibilities:
· To carry out all duties in a safe and efficient manner
· To handle vehicles and any other Company equipment with due care and attention
· To maintain a smart and tidy appearance when on duty
· To ensure the safety and comfort of passengers at all times
· To give assistance, advice and guidance to the public when requested
· To ensure all cash taken is paid to the Company
· To ensure compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, Road Traffic Act, the Competition Act and all other Acts, rules and regulations to which the both the Company and the employee must adhere
· To adhere to all relevant ISO 9002 procedures where appropriate
· To promote the Visions Values & Beliefs of Go North East
Hours of work
39 hours a week on a shift basis. 3 shift categories, earlies, middles and lates. Early shifts can start as early as 4.30am and late shifts can be through til approx. 1.30am. Minimum of 7 hours a day but some shifts can be up to 11 or 12 hours. Any 5 days from 7 so weekends and bank holidays are included.
Duties:
- To operate pre-determined routes and efficiently maintain appropriate time schedules
- To control passenger loadings and ensure that both legal capacities are not exceeded and that the company is aware of incidents when passengers cannot board because a vehicle is full
- To be competent in the use of electronic ticket machines, issuing tickets for fares tendered, accurately record passes (if not electronically recorded by ticket machine) and give change where necessary
- To check the validity of travel passes/permits (if not accepted by the electronic ticket machine).
· To be competent in the use of the statutory Fire Fighting equipment fitted to vehicles, and to understand vehicle evacuation procedures
- To follow Company procedures for breakdowns, accidents and emergencies
- To carry out comprehensive safety checks on the vehicle to Department of Transport and Company standards
- To be fully familiar & competent with any Company vehicle to be driven
- To operate all services in accordance with the information on duty boards, drivers duties and duty rosters
- To stop at registered bus stops or by request from intending passengers (hail & ride routes).
- To regularly check vehicles for lost property and hand in as per company procedure.
- To set destination blinds to ensure that the correct route information is displayed and is legible
- To treat passengers in a courteous and professional manner, and be alert, careful, considerate and helpful at all times during their journey
- To ensure that all cash taken is paid into the Company in accordance with agreed procedures
- To conform to all rules and regulations as laid down in the Highway Code, Road Traffic Act and Company procedures, as included in documents and policies provided.
