Reporting to the Manager of Transportation within the Facilities Division, Bus Drivers are responsible for the safe operation of a 76-passenger school bus transporting students to and from schools and extra-curricular events. Bus Drivers must perform daily vehicle safety checks, and maintain cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the vehicle. They are responsible for building rapport with students, parents and school administrators and are required to monitor student conduct on the bus.
The Surrey School District prides itself on providing our facilities staff with excellent work-life balance. Drivers work 6 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with scheduled hours between 6:30am and 4:30pm which includes a split shift. Extra hours for field trips between shifts may be required, and overtime rate is paid for hours in excess of 7.5 hours per day.
Applicants must have:
- A valid Class 1 or Class 2 BC Driver’s license, with air brake endorsement
- Understanding of basic vehicle mechanical functions and bus servicing requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
This is a unionized position that offers an hourly wage rate of $28.01 plus benefits package: municipal pension, health, vacation & sick benefits. Effective date per collective agreement.
